*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

A much better 2nd half just a shame that we had left ourselves far to much to do.

The big question for me is where was that fight and effort from the off because the players showed that they have something about them and can cause other teams problems. If we start the game with that attitude then we could have won that today.

I think the fact that whatever Frank said at half-time clearly got some kind of reaction from the players and there have been signs in the recent games of better performances, means that he'll be given more time. I still think the tough run in February could be problematic for him especially if we don't pick up some wins in the next few games.

We played through the lines at times, getting Simons on the ball makes things happen. It is far from perfect, but when Frank allows us to attack we can. Problem is we only usually do it when we have to....
I agree but we still give the ball away far too much. Spence was absolutely rubbish coming on carried on from the last game.. Muani needs to do more of what he did for the goal. He impacted game for 5 mins then disappeared into himself again. I thought Xavi was really good as was Odobert. Tel too. Scarlett made no impact other than a yellow card. Good to have Solanke back though. Think Palhinha needs to start ahead of Bents

We have actually played some decent football over the past couple of weeks, it's about knitting it altogether now.

That's why I'm remaining hopeful Frank can get things going second half of the season, I don't buy he's getting anywhere near the maximum out of this group of players. And I say that being in total agreement we need to make improvements to the squad....

Genuine better second half? I really didn't watch, I am all Spurs'd out

Did you think this was good? It was huff and puff, but the quality is lacking imo.

Exactly.
I appreciate the effort second-half, but it was essentially energised chaos-ball. With 10-15% more measure and quality, we’d have got way with showing up for one-half.
If we actually had any notion of pattern going forward beyond ‘heavy pressing for a bit’ I believe we can get more out of these players. Xavi is a real player for example, Muani too…

I thought you would have appreciated the excitment. Wasn't boring. We could have setup more defensively to stop villa scoring. And we threw everything we could at them. Difference was villas strength in depth. They bring on Tielmans, Sancho, Watkins. They have a strong squad.

Agree with all of that. It was far from perfect and not should it be, no one is thinking we have world beaters here. But you can see how much more onside everyone was with that second half - more positive energy, better movement, forward passes. It still didn't all come off but we were playing a top 3 team, if we persist like this we would be fine and the supporters would have the backing of the team more which in turn helps everyone.

Onwards and upwards.....

I genuinely don’t know if you understand my perspective.
Yes, I appreciated the excitement. Anything after that first-half.

It was exactly this. Physical huff and puff but if you look at the actual chances we created.................well...........
I think that's a little unfair. We did create chances after the goal. They then managed the game brilliantly ( going down at every opportunity to slow things down) and a poor ref broke our momentum. As did removing Tel for Scarlett and Porro for Spence.

I think you're being harsh there Steff, we tried to play football, the chaos came from them.

Remind me of the chances we had, the saves their keeper made?
I didn't say at any point we looked like winning, or we had fantastic chances - in fact, I didnt even once say someone should have scored.

I said we looked the more threatening for those 20 mins. Playing the submissive way with no runners, and creating few chances, we were losing 2-0, getting on the front foot more and trying to keep the ball in more threatening spaces for us a goal, and that was without a real striker. That was with the crap attackers we have.

I believe there is a process to follow but you have to show intent to build on that process, not just say we haven't got good enough players so that's why we bend over and hope we nick a goal at set pieces.
