Midfield is underwhelming because we keep chopping and chanigng formation. 4-2-3-1 works with our formation and becomes a bit 4-5-1 like when we lose the ball. Changing from two in the middle in Greece to 3 today and between flat midifleds and diamonds etc...its a recipe for disaster. We should have a well drilled formation and then players can switch in and out. Do you see Man C and Liverpool varying their formation? Or Barca? Or Bayern? or Chelsea under Mourinho? Or Arsenal under Wenger? etc etc

It’s a massive issue
We played 4-2-3–1 last week and smashed palace

This cannot must not/ cannot be swept under the ’we finish 4th and got to CL final’ carpet!
You are absolutely right it cannot be ignored and no one is doing that, but you cannot completely ignore the context of what we achieved last season when making a decision on whether Poch has taken us as far as he can. Especially given the problems in midfield.

Today mainly worked though against a talented and up for it Leicester. We should have won but the day hinged on two decisions that turned a win into a loss, VAR and bringing on Wanyama.

What problems in midfield? He had Dier, Wanyama, Winks, Sissoko, Ndombele and Skipp all available in Greece and today. His problem is that he's trying to be too clever and chop and change formation. Pick a system, develop a squad which suits it and then stick to it

Both VAR decisions were fair. Without VAR both goals would have stood. With VAR both were ruled out.

Oh come on. Dier and Wanyama are hopelessly out of form and injury prone. Ndombele is still settling and Skipp is far from the finished article. That leaves Sissoko and Winks whose performances have been up and down. It's hardly the days of Dembele, on form Dier and beastly Wanyama.

Dier hasnt played so hard to say he's off form. No reason why he couldnt have started Dier and Sissoko in CM today with Son, Moura and Lamela behind kane. Enough fresh legs there and stops us buggering around with the system constantly

The Leicester one was clear cut. Ours was so marginal benefit should have gone to the attacker.

You're mis-understanding the VAR/offside rule though, as have a lot of people on here. For offside, there is no debate around it - its onside or offside. For red cards, penalties etc then there is a level of subjectivity and so you have arguments like you suggest. The lines on the replay for Son's offside showed him as inches offside, but thats enough...

Today worked imo. We looked far better and I wasn't really concerned about losing. Yes they got through at times but were then repelled by our defence or goalkeeper. Silly errors were cut out. We lost our shape when Wanyama came on for Sissoko. I also thought Eriksen was poor when he came on.

It was not clear cut from the pictures imho

Dier seems to be breaking down every 5 mins. From his performances last season, it is fair to conclude he needs to be match fit otherwise he can be reckless. Poch is best placed to judge this. It's not like there isnt any evidence of Dier's poor form.

We can still look pretty in attack but we keep giving the ball away too easily and our ability to win it back quickly and often enough has evaporated. It's happening even on the edge of our own box and it seems like we're never far away from a bout of pinball and defensive panic. I tend to agree that it stems from the unsettled midfield, but that looks set to continue. 15 per cent of the season gone....

I'm going to log off now so that this debate doesnt descend further! Poch should be best placed to judge everything - but that doesnt mean we cant have opinions and that he cant get things wrong. I can't see how Dier is less fit or match-ready than Wanyama

He can’t be
The misconception with Dier is he keeps breaking down
The guy had one injury and the rest was all to do with his appendicitis and complications off that
