Mousa Dembele

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ast-becoming-the-ultimate-midfield-controller

"During those periods Wheelchair versus Dembélé was a fine battle, even if at times the Arsenal man resembled an entirely different species altogether, a chipmunk wrestling with a grizzly bear. At others it was almost a little too much as Wheelchair charged in with reckless abandon and was too often left dumped flat out on the grass in the physical mismatch."

He’s tremendous to watch. You can’t knock him off the ball because he’s too strong. You can’t crowd him out because he’ll find the tiniest gap and take three players out of the game. You can’t tackle him because he’ll just go by you. Up to the opposition box, he’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen.

However, once he gets there, he hasn’t a clue what to do.

Looking at stats won’t give you Dembele’s worth to a team. He won’t score and he won’t assist but he does so much before we get in a position to threaten the opposition goal.

There cant be many sights better than an on-form Dembele.
It is a thing of wonder to watch him. Not just the strength with which he fends off players and forges a way through, but the feints of movement where he leaves his opponent totally wrong footed and wondering what the hell just happened.
Sublime.

Agreed. His technical level is so high and he's so comfortable carrying it out.

This is Prem level and he literally looks like a 13 year old playing against under 9's.

I also think all of the comments about him not scoring enough are a bit misplaced. That just isn’t what his game’s about, and that’s fine - he does more than enough already in and out of possession to be a brilliant, effective CM. Indeed, I can’t think of any goal scoring central midfielders who are close to him defensively. And There are 4-6 players in our first XI who have more attacking responsibility than him.

MOTM for me today.

I do not want to mention names but if you scroll back there are a number of people on here who had virtually written the beast off, how fickle - he was by far the man of the match

Very true. I didn't write him off but must admit was having some doubts as to his longevity and contribution. Interesting beast is Dembele. Needs at least a handful of games to polish off the rust following a spell out with injury. Was wondering in those first games why Poch was played him despite his anonymous performances; it is clear now....
