Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Apparently was a bit snappy and off-message in the post-match presser today - when asked *again* about Wembley, he apparently actually admitted that it might *possibly* be a problem (in contrast to the admirably stoic line he's been sticking to over the past two months), but asserted that there was nothing we could do about it but adapt and overcome, even if it was. Then, when asked about why Dembele hadn't started (bit of a boneheadedly stupid question given that every man and his dog knows about his fitness issues by now) he got a bit peeved off and broke from his usual 'all opinions are valid in football' stance to dismiss the journo's opinion because 'the specialists are up here'.

I haven't seen the thing myself, I only read about it on Football.London (http://www.football.london/tottenha...hettinos-press-conference-every-word-13631488), but if so, he must have been more than a bit unhappy in the dressing room post-match. Can't say I blame him at all - but please, next time, no Trippier on the left, okay? Gracias, MoPo. :p

Sometimes posters on this forum say "No, Poch sees them in training, he knows way more about football than you... shut up"

However

Today proved this is incorrect. We all saw it. We all called it. Very disappointing management up to half time, then it got worse.

I also don't like anybody, especially the manager, blaming "the ref" for not getting a good result.
It's an excuse at best nothing more, usually it's to detract from the inadequacies of the teams performance. As is the case today.

Pochettino was rubbish today. Poor team selection. Poor tactics. Poor mentality. Poor substitutions. Sorry but most of the time he is great, today he didn't turn up.

When I saw the team I thought Vertonghen must be left back, surely he's not put Son there again.
That was also my initial reaction but on reflection it was quite a clever tactical move by Poch. Swansea are no Chelsea; they were always going to keep ten men behind the ball. So he presumably felt our need for a tricky attacking wing back was greater than for a defensive one like Davies. He would have felt he could rely on his three centre backs plus Dier to deal with the occasional threat from Swansea and so it proved.

Meanwhile Poch doubtless expected Son to reproduce a similar threat down the left flank as he did against Dortmund on Wednesday night.

And to be fair he was pretty much our most lively forward, especially first half. He came very close to scoring early on when Fabianski did well to divert his fierce goal-bound shot round the near post from an angle. Then shortly before the break he whipped in perhaps the most dangerous cross of the night, one that the Swans were only too relieved to clear behind for a corner before the advancing Kane could get a boot on it.

At the end of the day we did not concede, so it can surely be argued the tactic was at least a partial success.

People think the issue today was Son at LWB? Swansea never looked like even sniffing a chance, so defensively wasn't the issue.

Problem was 2-3 players had quite poor/flat games, not tactics, and even then, a little more clinical and we would have been having one of those job done conversations.

I'm sure it's been said in this thread but Trippier on the left side was an awful decision. Verts should have occupied that wing and provided more of an attacking threat and stretched Swansea's back line. I can't recall a time when Trippier moved forwards comfortably with the ball in the second half to help with a speedier attack.

it was this and poch should have seen it. many options aside form trippier who was simply not delivering. aurier did more in his cameo than trippier did all game.

and the subs were too late. there was a mid week match against a good team, and it looked like there was a hint of fatigue when a lot of final shots and passes went awry in the second half.

I am not sure if it is down to the manager or Levy.
But the decision not to buy back up/a player to challenge Alli/Christian in the window is still an odd one.

Trippier cannot run at players. It is an ability that Poch's tactics demands of the full backs. The ability to take them on. Davies, Rose, Walker, Aurier have it. Perhaps even KWP. Not Trippier.

He did play there in the first half and failed to put in a single decent cross iirc. Swansea were defending well and denied him space to cross.

He does not look fit IMHO.

Poch yesterday did not act early enough, sat there shaking his head!
Toughen up geezer and give them the hook if its not working.

Started Son at leftback? Again!!!!

If Davies needed a rest then not really. Son offered plenty of attacking threat and was never going to be massively tested defensively. What was baffling was putting Trippier left wing back....

Jan at left back and bring Foyth in the back three? (it was Swansea). Not ideal but better than Trippier on the left, he was dreadfully slow.

It is not that Trippier is slow. He is unable to create space if a defender is in front of him. He can't run at players with the ball. The other FBs do that. It is a serious flaw with him.
