Mateus Ferdnandes

We actually had one last season... and could have him again if we want and can convince him to sign permanently. A midfield trio of Palhinha, Fernandes and Tonali wouold incorporate graft, creativity and solidity and we already have backups in Gray, Bentancur and Gallaghewr respectively

Where's the creativity? Fernandes and Bentancur are capable passers. The rest really aren't. And two (Palhinha and Gallagher) actively harm progressive play

Tonali is not a creative player? Seriously?

I think you should have realised by now that just because you diss a player for no reason other than he is not your latest obsession or some 20 year old with potential, does not mean you are right.... indeed, you rarely are ;)

He's not outstanding with the ball. He's similar to Gallagher, Bergvall or Sarr in style, just more effective. Bruno is the passer in that double pivot

Is he any good? 85m price tag suggests so, but can't remember him at all from our games against wham last season.
He's 21...so you can only expect so much.
I've never heard him touted as a new 'wonder kid'...even when West Ham took him from Saints.

A Sporting product though, so technically going to be 100% sound.

I have West Ham mates who have been waxing lyrical about him this season, and more than one saying they expect him to be every bit as good as Rice.

Must say, few occassions I've seen him he's looked the part, but not going to claim to be an expert on him. Their forums are full of crying about them selling us one of their best players again, so I'm all for this :) ....

You don;t get it, do you? Fenrnades is close to the likes of Elliot Anderson in passes per 90 with a greater pass completion under pressure and lower dispossession rate. Most critically he uses almost half the touches Anderson does per 90... in other words he is tremendously press resistant. And THIS is what RDZ wants our midfield and defence to be... hence Van Hecke and Senesi at the back; Fernandez and Tonali in centre midfield.

As for those three.... they don't get anywhere close to these key press resistance stats...

And that's why we'll be mid-table at best next season. Poor decisions like that

Gallagher with 8/9 better creative technical players around him will be a top player. When he’s is relied upon to be the 3/4th best technical player like he was last season you don’t see the best of him.

It's not Fernandes I'm worried about - he'd be a perfect modern DM.

It's more the blend across 8-10 that worries me. Specifically really that Gallagher is seemingly going to be covering Simons' injury. Tonali is similar to (much, much better than) Gallagher, so we should be using that to flip the latter and bring in a proper 10 instead
