Marcos Senesi

JerusalemMan

Rafael Van Der Vaart

If the BBC are reporting it as almost done then it's practically in the back, they're pretty behind the pace when it comes to transfer stories.

Seems a very encouraging early free transfer in that's an upgrade if we ship out Radu. ALternatively an interesting choice if we are selling Romero as well and replacing them with Senesi and Vuskovic
Statistics are far from the be-all for a transfer and can be clung to for support rather than illumination, but it really seems like he's a remarkably good signing. I looked at his passing stats a bit ago and his forward passing was among the highest in the league, for all players not just in his position. He really seems to play out with vision and intent and couples that with good reading of the game because he intercepts a relatively high number of opposition passes too.
He's a leftie which could be a slight drawback if paired with VdV, but there are worse problems to have.

My understanding is, he isn't actually a leftie. He's right footed but is so used to playing with his left that he's functionally ambidextrous (feet-wise). That's pretty valuable to have in a squad.

If we must make free transfers, this is the standard we should aim for - a top defender in his prime, coming to us off a good season. Really hope we get this one over the line!

It looks like a good signing but Kerkez was also the bee's knees when Liverpool signed him and so far, he hasn't set the world alight there. Buying from clubs with an excellent scouting system (same with clubs with an excellent youth academy, by the way) can be tricky because, more often than not, their players are chosen to work in a certain environment. If you can't replicate that environment, you find yourself with a player who can't live up to the expectations.

If we can get the same out of him as Bournemouth did, he will be a great addition.

I don't get the 'if we must make free transfers' bit? Why on earth shouldn't clubs make free transfers? Does a player become better just because we spend big money on a transfer fee?

I'm not sure about this. Selling Argentina's 1st choice CB for a big fee and replacing him with Argentina's 6th choice (also older) CB on a free and lower wages.

On paper it seems like more squad downgrading/asset stripping by ENIC. Replacing Kane with Solanke etc.

It depends if it's a replacement or just part of a strategy to get more experience in and more versatility at CB.

We all know where Romeros ceiling is. It's high. But he doesn't want to stay in my view. And we aren't gonna pull his level of CB this summer so Senesi is fine for me.

It's the bigger picture though. It's that steady chipping away of quality over the past 7 years that has seen us drop from a regular top 3 team to N17th

Domestically Senesi has been much better than Romero for a couple of seasons, I see this as improving the squad

Seems like really sensible planning to me. Sell a player who is around his peak but had a poor season clearly wants out and selling him while he still has significant transfer value.

But replacing him with a player who is also at his peak, who is proven in the PL, come of the back of a great season and who does want to be here. Also doing that while bringing in net transfer fees of £50m or so that can be used to strengthen other areas of the squad. Not only that but bringing him in right at the start of the window so that the

Maybe after all these years Spurs are now finally going to act in a professional way when it comes to squad planning?
