Marcos Senesi: Tottenham close to signing Bournemouth defender

Tottenham are close to signing Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer.

If the BBC are reporting it as almost done then it's practically in the back, they're pretty behind the pace when it comes to transfer stories.

Seems a very encouraging early free transfer in that's an upgrade if we ship out Radu. ALternatively an interesting choice if we are selling Romero as well and replacing them with Senesi and Vuskovic
Statistics are far from the be-all for a transfer and can be clung to for support rather than illumination, but it really seems like he's a remarkably good signing. I looked at his passing stats a bit ago and his forward passing was among the highest in the league, for all players not just in his position. He really seems to play out with vision and intent and couples that with good reading of the game because he intercepts a relatively high number of opposition passes too.
He's a leftie which could be a slight drawback if paired with VdV, but there are worse problems to have.

My understanding is, he isn't actually a leftie. He's right footed but is so used to playing with his left that he's functionally ambidextrous (feet-wise). That's pretty valuable to have in a squad.

If we must make free transfers, this is the standard we should aim for - a top defender in his prime, coming to us off a good season. Really hope we get this one over the line!
