Lukaku

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

For what it's worth I'd look at. Bony as a serious alternative

He has shown quality attributes in his first season and would suit our potential systems

Looks like he has a good attitude too

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

I say that, and to be honest, I'm not anti Tim, far from it... but I think it's a possible scenario, and brings me to the my own conclusion over what's best for the club.
If you are any one of the current top4, who's going to give you the biggest worry, even at the end of next season, Tim or LVG?

Totally agree; I don't like TS but taking that out of the equation, it would be clear as day that we'd be far more feared as a club if we were managed by LVG as opposed to being managed by TS

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Wow, that's terrible news. Must be gutting for him.

Injured you say?
Won't have a good world cup thus reducing competition for him?
The opportunity to push the price down you say?
This coming august 31st, please call 1-800-Levytime

Problem is, the injury is an achilles and the prognosis is 6 months (the Guardian is saying "at least" 6 months. The Mirror is saying 8 months.) I think that almost certainly rules out a transfer before next summer.

I was just reading up on achilles injuries and saw this about NFL players:

An Achilles tendon rupture sends more than one third of National Football League (NFL) players to the sidelines permanently, according to a new study published in Foot & Ankle Specialist. NFL players who do return to the playing field after having suffered an Achilles tendon rupture experience about a 50 percent reduction in their power ratings.

Similar stats from another source on basketball players, who seem particularly susceptible to achilles injury (presumably that's about explosiveness):

a June study from the American Journal of Sports Medicine titled “Performance Outcomes After Repair of Complete Achilles Tendon Ruptures in National Basketball Association Players” isn’t so optimistic.

The study concluded that only 44 percent of players were able to play longer than one season after their injury. Unfortunately, those who did play past a season saw a drastic decline in their performance:

Of course, it's hard to say whether any of this is relevant to Benteke's specific injury.

Nonetheless, scary stuff. I would say there is a relatively high statistical possibility Benteke is never quite the same again. Which is fukking brutal.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Pretty obvious we're being used as bait either for a new contract or for a deal with an overseas club.

Still, it's fun to dream.

I also think Benteke's injury gives us more chance of signing him too.
id be wary about signing a player who has had a serious achilles injury.....they rarely return as the same player.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Lukaku would be my dream signing, been wanting him since the day I watched him make that 10min sub appearance v us last season at the Lane.
Many wont like this, but I would take Ashley Cole on a free as well..if we could do a deal on his wages, failing that, Ben Davies

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

If people on here wouldnt want Ashley Cole then they really do need their head testing. That really would be up there with the best free transfers....

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Lukaku, yes please. We probably won't get him, but if we have the chance, we should go all in for him. Quality striker, young, looks very capable of playing up front on his own...I think he'd suit a 4-5-1 formation with the players we currently have, very, very well.

Lloris
Walker - NEW CB - Vertonghen - NEW LB
Lamela - Sandro - Eriksen - Dembele - NEW LW
Lukaku

A bit like that. Or with Soldado in a 4-4-2-ish formation. Think he would be a great signing.

Not for me.

Great player but not someone I'd want at Spurs - disgusting individual who lied to stop John Terry serving the prison time he deserves.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood has opened the door for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to move across London to White Hart Lane at the end of the season.

The Belgian is currently starring on loan at Everton, where he has scored 12 league goals this season. His exploits at Goodison Park come on the back of his impressive spell at West Brom last term, when he netted 17 times in 35 Premier League outings.

Lukaku’s agent Christophe Henrotay recently revealed that he has already held talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and Sherwood believes the decision on whether or not his side will firm up their interest in the 20-year-old will be taken in the summer.

When asked about Lukaku, Sherwood said: "He is a player who signed at a young age for Chelsea. He’s had two good loan spells. Whether he will come here will be addressed at the end of the season."

Chelsea will reportedly demand a fee of around £25m for Lukaku this summer.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Jose Mourinho has dismissed speculation linking Romalu Lukaku with a move to Tottenham, insisting there has been no approach for the striker.

Lukaku, currently on loan at Everton, has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the past few weeks, with reports suggesting he is being targeted by both Spurs and the Toffees for a permanent switch.

The Belgian’s agent added fuel to the fire yesterday by claiming he has already held initial talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

But Mourinho says Chelsea are unaware of any interest in the young hitman.

‘Have we had any approaches? No,’ Mourinho said. ‘I don’t think it’s the time to speak about it. ‘He’s a Chelsea player, but at the same time he’s an Everton player until the end of the season. We want to respect that. Everton are good club for a loan. Our player is there and our player is playing.

‘He is developing and that’s what you expect. With Lukaku and Everton the loan is working well. Working for Everton, for Lukaku and Chelsea.’

Reports this week have talked about a mass clearout from Stamford Bridge this summer, with each of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Lukaku all said to be up for grabs as Mourinho refreshes his attacking options.

But the Blues boss says Torres at least has a future at the club, despite his negative comments towards the Spaniard earlier this week.

‘Yes. he has a future,’ Mourinho added. ‘He’s contracted and a good professional. He works hard for the team and brings things to the team.

‘Obviously we want him to score more goals, obviously he wants to score more goals. It’s not just me that wants that.’

Someone will be along in a minute to say Sherwood is mixing up Romelu Lukaku with David Nugent.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

If Everton make CL I think they will be hitting wonga.com to get the cash for him themselves. The locals would go mental if they make top four then he gets sold to us.

I'm just surprised he had time to make those comments.

Wouldn't his time be better served ****ging off Bill Nicholson or Jimmy Greaves?

Unlikely, they simply don't have the turnover to do it.

It will be very interesting with Martinez, he's showing himself to be a decent manager with good loyalty traits, but without a buyer, Everton will simply never compete higher than where they are.

Re: would Chelsea sell us Lukaku?

Yeah fack it. Let them have their Champions League football next year but they can't spend like Mr Levy can.
