Maybe the guy wants to feel a connection to a club, to feel at home. Rather than getting loaned out again. Totally fair.

The guy clearly thinks he’s destined for a super club of some description. I simply don’t believe he thinks he has more chance of starting at one of those if he can’t imagine a world where he gets in front of the options at Spurs. There will be competition anywhere.

And I’m just not convinced that a loan means ‘starting all over again’. A loan is his chance to prove himself in the PL. Plenty of great players have gone this route. Saliba is a fantastic example down the road. The idea that he needs a permanent move right now rather than a loan only makes sense if he wants more money in the next 2-3 years before he gets that super club move.

One caveat with the Saliba comparison is that he was already at an elite club where if everything went well he could see the possibility of achieving his goals (as has now been the case).

Unlike Vuskovic who probably sees us a stepping stone to those elite clubs. If he now sees a better path to that end goal and that involves moving to Brighton, well then from his perspective, so be it.

He's not a Tottenham fan, he doesn't see playing for us as the pinnacle of football or his career and if we are talking about him now as just being a transitional player for us why are should we fight to keep him so hard? If he isn't a better option than the other defenders available and you have to say that is how De Zerbi sees it, why should we fight so hard to keep someone that you think is going to leave in the short term anyway?

Indeed. Whatever he wants to do, and it appears to be leave permanently - good luck to him. But a Premier League loan, and he does as well as he would like to think? Well, we are either chomping at the bit to get him back for next season or there will be some big clubs in the PL aswell as overseas keen to take him for big money.

So not sure why the eagerness to leave permanently already beyond as has been suggested money - if he's as good as he thinks it would be a win win loan for him. But we don't know the true ins and outs here so not going to pass real judgement. After all this fanfare would be funny if RDZ announces he wants him here next season and sees him as a key part of his plans ....

It’s not that he is bad, I think he will turn into a very good defender but if you remember the likes of Baresi, Maldini, Nesta at Lazio then this kid does not have the same levels of awareness that they had at 18/19, so I wouldn’t say right now he will be any better then what we have right now (better in the air perhaps, but less so positionally).

Happy to keep him naturally, but if selling him for a reasonable fee enables us to sign Tonali/Wharton etc then have to ask what puts us in a better position overall, it’s a team game not an individual one afterall

Not really, but reading about the not selling him that is the equivalent level he is being put at right now. He might develop into it, or he might develop into Rodon (PL level defender), who knows. My point was more is it right to take the risk on him becoming that player or is it right if the value is enough to use him to better the team overall

He might argue he’s already done the loan thing. Did well, now a starter for his country (a very good team) and he’s not given a chance by the team that finished 17th twice in a row. All I’m saying is that I can understand why he might want to leave for Brighton.

As for the bold bit…I mean, yeah? Every decision he makes is surely with a view of becoming the best player possible, playing for the best clubs and earning as much money as he can. Is there a player who doesn’t do that? Based on the rumours, he seems to think that leaving Spurs permanently is the best way to get there. A loan guarantees him very little at all.

I believe that if all else was equal, and he got a wage boost at Spurs, he’d probably take a loan. It’s perfectly reasonable for the club to ask him to perform well on a PL loan and get the experience in this league before we trust him with a starting spot. After all he’s 19.

A permanent move doesn’t guarantee any more than a loan. He has to perform either way. I think he just thinks he doesn’t need Spurs anymore, which again to be clear that’s not why this irks me. It’s the ‘I want to be at a club that wants me’ comment. Because the club will likely have said get a PL loan and then you’re in our starting plans. That is not us saying he’s unwanted, when he’s 19. So to make out the club is almost not doing right by you when actually it’s a two way thing, he wants to play, we want experience, but also he very likely will earn more money and get out of the long term contract he signed with us if he moves permanently…I think his comment is diva like and unfortunate. I don’t begrudge him wanting the move or not thinking he needs us, but just don’t make out we haven’t done right by him.
