Yeah, if he wants to go back Hamburg again no way we do that without getting him to extend his contractShould be looking to extend that in the summer.

Love the “he wouldn’t be getting game time” as we trot out a Palhinha & Dragusin centre back pairing![]()
Big difference as a teenager getting 8 or 9, vs. full season of 40+.
He could get another 40-50 games experience next year and still come back to us at 20
what about the championship?I think (someone may correct me) that there was an article where he had said he didn’t yet feel ready for the Prem.
I think he will benefit hugely from consistently in terms of environment and minutes at this point. Happily I don’t think we can lose either way here (well, as long as we aren’t kicking off in the Championship next season).

While Danso has proved to be a pretty damn good defender – arguably as good a third choice as we've ever had in the Prem – I think it's more questioning whether Vuskovic would get minutes ahead of VdV or Romero. Which is a no.Sorry utterly mental the way he is being discussed. He’s been the best defender in the Bundesliga all season. If Bayern were signing him from Hoffenhiem it would be fo €50M+ and he would be starting for them pretty quickly. But we’re questioning whether he gets minutes ahead of Kevin Danso![]()
Him staying at Hamburg for another year also might not be the worst thing from a personal point. Assuming he is living with his brother so he has a support network there and he has moved country every year the last few seasons. He might really kick on staying in an environment he already feels comfortable in.

Anyway, Vuskovic has said as much in interviews. Stripping away the ridiculous scoring record, he is still a youngster and has room to improve his defending. It's also an ambition of his to play alongside his brother, Mario, whom Hamburg have stood by through a 4-year doping ban (ending in November) which the family strongly dispute.
Assuming we've still got VdV, Romero and Danso next season, I think the best thing for Vuskovic's long term development is as good a loan as he can get. While playing for Hamburg isn't going as good as getting games for a lower Prem side, it's as good or better than the Championship or arguably any other league. And we know he'll be leading the line every game – for 19yo, that is gold.
We also have Dragusin, who has shown himself to be pretty decent backup, despite some rust against Emirates Marketing Project and a dingdong of an agent. Just a pity that neither he nor Danso plays FB as well.
I see this as similar to Sonny's national service. Do good by Vuskovic, keep on qualifying for those European tours, and he'll hopefully pay us back for it. Either that or we'll get £100M+ for him.
Been researching whether or not Vuskovic could eventually be classed as a "club-trained player" after his third season under contract with us, and the best I could find is this which, if correct, would prevent him from being classed as "club-trained" if he stays at Hamburg for a second season...
According to UEFA's definition, a club-trained player is a player who has been registered with their current club for a minimum of three entire seasons (or 36 months) between the ages of 15 and 21.
Regarding loaning out players, clubs can have a maximum of 17 foreign-trained players in UEFA competitions. However, there is a specific restriction that allows for a maximum of one loan period to a foreign club for a player who qualifies as a club-trained player, with the loan period not exceeding one year
Yep. He would need to be loaned to an English FA club for it to count. Ashley Phillips as an example will be club trained next season and will Alfie Devine. Not that it matters as we won’t be in Europe. But in the slim chance we make the Conference League which could be 8th they should be part of the squad next season.
Just a thought but does he have 3 or 4 seasons to pass the club trained critireia though? He's only 18 now. I'm wondering if he has 2 seasons in Germany and 2 seasons under our FA (hopefully with us) then he ticks the right boxes before he is classed as a senior player.
