Been an issue for quite a while. Not surprising that Frank runs into issues with that too.

For me the question is to what extent can Simons solve that. Looking at what Damsgaard did for Brentford, Eriksen for us back in the day etc, I think quite a bit.

You can describe a 4-2-3-1 as a 2 man midfield if you want... Sure. To me that's not the same as a Conte 2 man midfield or a classic 4-4-2 two man midfield.

But it would be the same if Johnson is the man in the point as you described. Where is the 3rd midfielder? That's the role Johnson would be playing.

You want ball progresses sure, those are two outside, how are we getting the ball to them? Let's assume Palhinha is playing then the balance of the other player needs to be aggressively technical to get the ball out wide and forward as we are essentially playing with one passing capable CM a player don't even currently possess. I just don't see how your system works? It is a 2 man midfield no matter which way you cut it.

Johnson as the third midfielder, the AM/10, Dele role.

Against City we played Palhinha, Bentancur and Sarr... Who was the aggressively technical midfielder next to Palhinha? We played well from what I remember.

Sarr is probably 3 times the technical player that Johnson is, we also played on the counter and without possession. Do you think Johnson can perform the role Sarr did? Seriously?
