I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Lamella has had a hand in 7 goals in his last seven games... That's what we brought him for and he is a growing in importance for us game by game

Fair play to him he is now probably our first pick in the attackers behind Kane

Lamela now has either a goal or assist in each of the last 7 matches for us in the league. He has 3 goals and 4 assists in those 7 matches. If you include the pre-season, he has 5 goals and 4 assists in our last 10 matches. As he scored against Juventus and Inter Milan in the pre-season, Atletico Madrid is the only match Lamela has not scored or assisted any goals in his last 10 matches for us. Remember, he did hit the post against Atletico Madrid. It is clear he is getting sharper in front of the goal all the time.

And to think I would have sold the little bugger beginning of last season .....:)

What do I know!

We must stop over hyping Vincent Janssen.......that is a start.....

he really impressed me playing for his national team in copa america couple of months ago, of course it doesn't do any harm linking up with di maria, that geezer messi, etc, so pleased we showed patience with him

As last season went on Lamela seemed to grow more and more with each game. Fortunately he seems to have carried that on during the Copa America, pre season and now into the new season (I know its only the first game)

I have a feeling its going to be his season this year and it wouldnt surprise me if he leaves next year for a ridiculous amount to PSG, Real or Juventus.

Great to see him score a header. Nice to see him in the central position. We had four players in the box for Walkers cross. Second half was much more like it and he seemed to play more on the left for a change. Tactical?

Left footed player on the left, doing the biz ..... who'd have thought it ?

Double inverted wingers, anyone ?

Tottenham's Erik Lamela scores their first goal

Tottenham Hotspur got their Premier League campaign underway this afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park.

After initially being overrun early on Spurs built their way into the game and in the end they were unlucky not to come away with a win.

Tottenham's Erik Lamela celebrates scoring their first goal with Harry Kane

The fact they earned a point was courtesy of an excellent headed goal from Argentine Erik Lamela – who had a brilliant game.

His goal continued his fine form from pre-season and many are tipping him to be Spurs’ star player in 2016-17.

He showed glimpses of his ability on a more regular basis last season but has started this campaign with real aplomb.

His first two seasons at the club were certainly less than impressive.

The Argentine struggled to settle in London and with a niggling back injury.

But Spurs have stuck by the Argentine, despite numerous opportunities to flog him, and they are now looking like reaping the rewards of their faith in the club record signing’s undoubted ability.

Here is some of the best reaction on Twitter to Lamela’s excellent performance for Spurs…

Frankly. Pochettino should built the team around Lamela. He has been in such a great form that he should be taking all our freekicks as well.

I'm starting to think you are Lamela's dad.

Erik Lamela: Tottenham Hotspur's Bale replacement has a Ronaldo swagger

Tottenham ace Erik Lamela scored an impressive header against Everton on the opening day of the season to salvage a point for his side.

The Argentine looked more confident than ever in a Spurs shirt, and could very easily have won the game with a rasping effort which was well saved by Maarten Stekelenberg.

Lamela is in his fourth season in English football, and looks primed to step up and really become a mega star.

The winger was brought in to replace Gareth Bale in 2013, and found his first couple of seasons a struggle, mainly due to injury, but also partly due to simply having to adapt to the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino has been a good coach for him, and last season especially the signs were there that he is really beginning to grasp what it is all about.

Lamela was impressive in pre-season, and has carried on that form into the Premier League campaign, with the game at Goodison a perfect example of what he is capable of.

Whenever he was in possession he wanted to make an impact, and stretched the Everton defence all afternoon.

In 2011/12 Bale netted nine league goals for Tottenham. The following season he reached new heights, netting 21 times in the division.

Lamela looks primed for a similar step up. Whether he can reach Bale's heights is another matter, having just five goals lat season to build off - but he is already off the mark this campaign.

Against Everton, Lamela was more reminiscent of Bale's Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, possessing a swagger about him - less exaggerated of course - but it was one which said he knew he could change the game.

Whether it was his direct running, or his willingness to drop a shoulder and find an incisive pass, Lamela was difficult for the Everton defence to get near, and his header showed a bravery the Madrid man would have been proud of.

Even the celebration - pointing at himself - was a little too Ronaldo-esque for comfort.

This is all a good sign for Tottenham, who want Lamela to step up and become a leader for the team. At 24, age and lack of experience is no longer an excuse, he needs to deliver - and on Saturday he looked like a player who knows he can.

Now he has to continue this form for the next 37 games, and help Tottenham stay in this season's title mix.

It looks like someone is trying to bring Lamela's price to Bale and Ronaldo level ! Notice the media is now calling him "Tottenham ace" and no longer "Tottenham misfit". That itself is a huge credit for Lamela's improvement in the last 2 years !

Well done to him, there always was a player in there somewhere.

I've seen flair players turn into workhorses, never seen a flair player -> workhorse -> regain flair (+keep work ethic)

The fact that both Poch & Argentina persisted with him even when people wanted him out, tells a lot.

Potential for this to be his season is good, hope it goes well for him.
