Giovani Lo Celso

This is where the window shutting royally fudges English clubs.

Betis know Napoli are interested

They don’t have to budge on the price, if anything they can increase the price for us knowing they have Napoli to fall back on.
Who will not pay more than we would, so they'd just be shooting themselves in the foot.

This guy is the new Damiao, isn't he?

Got the legs to be the next Moutinho for me, manager supposedly wants him and there's enough gonad*s from third parties to give us a brick deadline day...

Or we wrap it up shortly, who knows with us.

So the club should buy a player to replace Eriksen in case someone comes in with an £80m bid after the deadline? What happens if no one comes in for him?
If no one comes in for him and he doesnt sign an extension he goes for free next summer. At that point being absolutely desperate will still need to pay the 50m-60m that is now required for a player of that type. We have no choice, we either do it this window and maybe get some money back for Eriksen or we do it next summer and get nothing.

If Eriksen signs an extension and we have brought in Lo Ceslo or an/other we finally then have quality competition for the role which also needed.

No - the club should buy a player to compete with Eriksen in what is probably - after Kane's - the key position in the team, so as to give Eriksen competition and also be able to rest him and avoid burnt out in the key games at the end of the season. Of course, it offers additional protection should Eriksen decide to move on but that should not be the main consideration.

Why?

They can demand more from us knowing they will at least get what we offered from Napoli
So maybe shooting themselves in the foot might have been a tad exaggerated, but I doubt they'd get more from Napoli than they would from us. And Napoli's interest is just rumored at this point, so it's not like it's a sure thing that Napoli will pick up Lo Celso if we don't.

So Betis is taking a bit of a risk with this one.

Unless they're not bothered about whether he leaves or not. Fekir was a bargain price, so perhaps they're ok with him staying?

Surprising that they'd play him in a friendly today if they thought a deal was likely

Could be.

They may also be playing him to show Levy they're not bothered about a deal so as to make us blink first. Who the fudge really knows at this point.

Valid points.

They have just sold a RB for 25 million - so guess the need to sell is less
