Fazio and Stambouli Needed

7th will still be EL unless Bradford/Reading/Villa win the FA cup

'Of the three places in the UEFA Europa League available to English clubs the FA Cup winners enter at the Group Stage, the fifth-placed team in the Barclays Premier League enter at the Play-Off stage, and the Capital One Cup winners enter at the third qualifying stage.

In the event that the FA Cup winners have qualified for the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup runners-up qualify for the third qualifying stage of the UEFA Europa League. In this case the place with direct access to the Group Stage will be given to the club who finish in the highest position in the Barclays Premier League of the clubs qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.'

Unlikely we'll finish outside the top 7. Difference between finishing 5th and 7th is potentially another 4 bloody games in the EL. Villa finishing cup runners up would rob 7th of an EL spot too.

I think that has changed recently. FA cup runners up don't get EL anymore - it always goes to 7th if the winners qualify via the league

Has anybody got ANY news as to why these two were again not even in the squad?
Two consecutive weeks away and seemingly no injury news and i'm starting to wonder if they are not in the squad for non-footballing reasons (like Kaboul and Capoue)...

Fazio is especially being missed right now imo..

Those are old rules. Your link is about last year. This year the FA-cup runner-up won't qualify for EL. If Liverpool or Arsenal win the cup, then seventh-place is European football unfortunately.

You may be right, but it does say 'European qualification from the Barclays Premier League for 2014/15', not 2013/14 which would be last year?

No news as far as I've seen. Wouldn't be the first time no news was given about injuries, but looks a bit like they're just being left out.

Yes. Qualification for the 2014/15 European competitions. Meaning qualification for the current ongoing competitions. Link says 2013/14, and under the CL heading it says: "[...]the clubs who finish in the top four positions in the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League will qualify to compete in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League."

Oh yeah, so it does. Well done for reading it properly. Can't find anything on this year though.

But why?

We can all see why Poch no longer fancies Kaboul but Stambouli seemed to be doing very well when he suddenly disappeared off the radar. Hard to conceive he hasn't impressed in training because he was busting a gut every game he played.

It's true Fazio had been prone to brainfarts, even so we had an excellent defensive record whenever he partnered Verts. Fair enough to give Dier a run, but now Chiriches appears to be solidly ahead of the Argentinian. Strange.

Unless I've missed something in the media (quite possible) the silence from Tottenham is deafening.
