Erik Lamela (announced by Roma p.41)

Greg Stobart ‏@gstobart 7m
Lamela has left Holly House, told Chiriches been and gone. Just Eriksen left to wait for then!

so that's two medicals completed! hopefully they sign and are presented at the game tonight.

He has stated that he is happiest playing as No10, and though he predominantly played out wide at Roma, he certainly has the skillset to move inside.

I think he has been bought as our No. 10. That would certainly make sense looking at the evidence:

1. We were in for both him and Willian at the same time, and both of them are left footers who currently play on the right and cut in. It seems inconceivable they were both tapped for that role since one of them would have had to switch wing. It makes no sense to buy two £30m players and start one of them out of position. Much more likely Willian was wanted to play in the channel of an advanced midfield 3, and Lamela to play centrally.
2. This scenario also makes sense of the subsequent Eriksen move as he'd be the replacement for Willian. Different players of course, but both can cover both channels.
3. It makes more sense to spunk £30m on a No. 10 than to put him out wide and leave the middle of the park to the £8m Eriksen, Holtby or Siggs.
4. If he wants to be a No. 10, it's possible we were one of the few big clubs who could offer him an (almost guaranteed) starting spot there.

Upshot:

----------------Lloris---------------------

---Walks---Kaboul---Verts---Rose/AN Other

---------Sandro-----Paulinhio----------

--------------Lamela------------------

--Townsend/Lens-------Eriksen/Dembele/Chadli

-------------Soldado--------

The front 3/4 hopefully interchanging a lot in game, with forward contributions from Paulinhio, Walker and Rose too, and with the option to rotate in Holtby and Siggs anywhere in that attacking 3.

If signed and registered before midday tomorrow I believe, if that is the case he would be on the bench at best I'd imagine, nice impact sub if he is....

Would certainly provide a ready-made riposte to the "Where's your Bale gone?" chants (assuming GB isn't, in fact, still here Sunday).

You can stick Gareth Bale, etc.
...We've got Lamela in attack.

I'm quite certain Willian is right footed. I think him and Lamela either side of Soldado was plan A.

If we play a 4-3-3 I think Lamela will be played on the right most of the time. This is in no way being played out of position for him as far as I can understand.

Lamela would surely play as part of the front 3. Not in midfield.

Maybe I set out the graphic incorrectly - the formation was meant to suggest Lamela playing just behind Soldado in a No. 10 position, with the channel players to either side, and the back 2 of the midfield 5 doing the DM/transition work. In this scheme Lamela loiters around the start of the final third most of the time.

My understanding of tactics and formations suck though, so I could have that all wrong.

I can see him being used almost exactly as Bale was — either a roaming/false 10 behind Soldado or cutting in from the right.

AVB will probably get him on throw ins so he gets the ball back unmarked like he did Bale, great tactic that.

I was hoping he might have signed by the time I got here to Enfield. Any chance we might here something offical before kick-off, would be a nice bonus for the fans (and TV cameras) if we could unveil our new signing on the pitch tonight
