Cristian Romero

I don't recall anyone having issues with a lot of Spurs captains? And in regards to Son he represented Spurs fantastically, but there are many facets to being a captain. Romero can't even perform the most simple of duties, I really don't know what you're even debating - as if we should just not bat our eyelids at our captain fudging off to his homeland at this time....

You and many fans think Spurs should be the number one thing in his life and he’s there to watch. That would be nice. For him and many Argentinian’s, representing his country is the most important thing, especially at a World Cup. In consultation with the club, he decided to go home to get treatment, as he’s done before. Had it not been for his hometown club putting it out there, we’d never have even known.

People who think he’s let down his teammates by not being there don’t realise that the ones he might actually be able to impact with his presence are probably some of his good friends and understand his position. Some of whom would probably choose to do exactly the same thing in his situation.

It’s a non-story. Or the reaction to it is potentially a massive fudging distraction that the club just doesn’t need right now.

This is where I am with it. I dont buy there is some mythical impact of him being present. And look, I have been a fan, but playing wise he has been poor, so for balance im not blindly backing him up. But like you, its a non story, he is also travelling back for treatment of which there have been photos, its often the case that players go back to Dr's and specialists they know and trust, given its a WC year there is more at play for that

You seem to be missing the point - No one was suggesting he had run off without permission. The fact is as usual the captain who is paid handsomely by his club is prioritising his national team ahead of the clubs most important game for years.

It's rehab not keyhole surgery. He could and would have continued his rehab here for a few more days before leaving to Argentina after this game if he wanted but no - as usual he can't wait to run off back to Argentina. Captains usually go above and beyond, the saddest thing there is no surprise whatsoever he has chosen to do this....
If I was Romero, in my heart of hearts I would know this was wrong...I would carry a unshakeable unease about it.

If he doesn't feel like that...it tells us all we need to know.

It's that simple.

I haven't seen a single person claim Romero being there is going to make us more likely to win tomorrow? It's just a standard obligation of being captain, it's that simple and it's just another example to add to the list of why he's been a poor captain.

As for it being a non story, major Spurs ex players seem not think so who you'd think have an idea of what the role of a captain at this club should be. It's just poor form from our 'leader', simple as that....
