We need to find a serial winner. All the best coaches have won, wherever they have been, at whatever level. We need to take a chance on someone and see if they can step up. Someone like Frank, who is regarded on here as a 'safe pair of hands', will never be anything but. I loved Poch, but let's be honest, his career has hit similar (almost there) heights wherever he's been.

Not for me. I want someone that will get the best out of the team and resources at their disposal. Someone that will improve us.

It was at this time, in the dark Danish winter days, a new account appeared on the Brøndby forum Sydsiden Online. Going under the username ‘Oscar’, it heavily criticised Thomas Frank and sporting director Per Rud with messages such as:

  • “Per and Thomas took so many insane decisions together because of ignorance and inexperience.”
  • “We can’t point at a single signing that has been even close to respectable, and Thomas’ missing ability to integrate new players, which he has 100% picked himself, is lame and unacceptable.”
  • “Another coach should be able to get more out of it [the squad], and there is focus on this [from the club]. I’m convinced we’ll see changes very soon.”
  • “When we have a head coach who is inexperienced and stubbornly sticking to a system that doesn’t work, we have a recipe for disaster.”
In March, shortly after the spring season had started, it was revealed that the man behind the comments were none other than chairman Jan Bech Andersen himself.

Unsurprisingly, Frank decided to quit shortly after the news broke, leaving the club in fifth in the league following a 3-1 defeat to SønderjyskE.

Andersen himself was also forced to step down as chairman, but later regained his position, which he still holds this to this day.

We all gave Ange the 2 seasons to settle. I'm worried that very few us are going to afford the same grace to whoever comes next. I'm not feeling it.
The squad has had £400m spent on it since that time and is in a much more shipshape state. Anyone good should hit the ground running. There will also be a lot of quick wins, once we start running smartly and passing & moving again

Thomas Frank's Premier League record...with the caveat that stats alone do not tell full stories, and context is needed.

Very impressive given their resources.

This is Eddie Howes record at Bournemouth by way of comparison, given he similarly managed a small club in the PL, had them punching and has managed to handle a step up since :

As you can see, similar placings but did eventually wind up relegated.

Indeed, and as I said, all stats like this need to be measured in various contexts.

FWIW I still wouldn't bet against Howe being our manager in the next few years, depending on what happens with the club...
