…but they didn’t.
Besides the point, the Europa was a harder competition when they were in charge with teams dropping out from the Champions league.

This is like the whole Gareth Southgate thing, yeah he got us to finals etc but the teams he played on his way were teams you expected to beat. It’s all hindsight but the run we went on in the competition was hardly a difficult route.

I don't care about injuries or priorities. The fact that he refused to tweak his system even slightly (except for a handful of cup games) when we were losing games week in, week out is both unacceptable and unforgivable to me. In addition the football we played was some of the worst I've ever seen, where the players don't seem to have the tiniest clue of what they're supposed to be doing. Been thinking about this and if he stays I'm going to have to take a break from Spurs. It will be a waste of a season anyway.

To sum it up: I absolutely hate the way we play and have zero belief in his willingness to change.

Yeah at Spurs we all know how good we are at achieving things when expected to win dont we.

Not like the managers you mentioned got knocked out to the might of Dinamo Zagreb or Gent in the Europa League was it...

Again is that because Ange is better or because those other managers had to be competitive in the league as well as cup? When Ange said this season is unprecedented, he was right, there has never been a situation like this before.

Look at all the PL teams who have won trophies this season. It's been a quirky season because all trophies have been won by different teams. Did any of them sacrifice the league to win those? Genuinely I don't think they did. So you can understand the arguments being made against keeping Ange. I think he will stay though.

We don't know what would have happened with other managers regardless of situation, it's such a pointless point to try and make(not by you) that other managers would have won it.

Poch might have got to the final and had another brainwave like putting Son at left back for it, you just don't know. We have been knocked out by poor teams in recent years, not even qualified for the Conference league knock outs - the idea we would have filled our boots with EL trophies was it not for the CL drop outs is nonsense....

Look I think we risk denigrating the UEFA cup and I love it. So I am not going to engage in that. It's a great tournament to win at any time.

But the context around winning cannot be ignored mate. We hear a lot about Ange and the injuries he's had to deal with but

1) actually it's worked in his favour because it removed the pressure of having to perform in the league. Meaning he could focus on winning that trophy.

2) when he had his best players back he didn't play them in the PL games - see above.

I said I wouldn't engage in these discussions as they are not changing any one's opinion. But I find myself getting dragged in

Indeed!
He'a buying when it suits an argument or viewpoint...honestly, this whole discussion feels like a giant waste of time because deep down we all know what is likely to happen...

He's told us exatly how it works.
He will tell the scouting team what he needs.
The scouting team will give him options.
He will go through and discard any he doesn't want or think suitable.
The club then goes out and tries to secure players.

I think you might be misunderstanding mate, I'm not arguing this point - you've made it before and I agree! My point is you can't say previous managers would have won this tournament because there's no CL dropouts. We have got knocked out to a lower level of team in the EL under said managers. If they had the luxury of focusing on this tournament like Ange would they have won it? Maybe. Maybe not. No one knows, it's such a pointless thing to say.

Our issues in the past have been mentally in why we haven't got it over the line. For all of Anges faults he looks to have instilled a mentality in this squad that to me looked like they believed they would win, and that made me think we would too. I haven't seen that or had that feeling with our team in Europe before. Just my opinion anyway :)

And you don't think there is any budgetary limit involved in putting together those 'options'?! Let's be clear. No ONE person signs the players at THFC.

Let's see mate and I genuinely hope you are right. Starting with the Uefa Super Cup. Looks like we'll be playing PSG. If he engineers a win, that will be a terrific achievement and I'll be optimistic going into the season.

I don't think he will be here by then to be honest. But whoever is in charge, will be a fantastic test and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves....

The comparisons to Ten Haag are, IMO, highly flawed. For a start the club was not united in their vision. He was given bizarre financial backing versus there being any 'model' or plan. And so on (I'll spare us...)

I disagree on hunch and emotion vs hard evidence. I could out together stats which show how injuries have decimated any hope of rhythm. As I said, there's no point because everyone has their perspective. What I will say is there are no absolutes whatsoever.

Honest question Steff, do you see the situation improving next season if Ange is still in charge? Fully accept there’s a degree of luck to injuries but we’ve suffered both seasons so it’s not like this season is an isolated occurrence, and injuries affected his Celtic team, they were just so much better than everyone else that it didn’t matter,

I do, yes, significantly and for reasons I've shared several times.

It is also my opinion that he won't be our manager next season as I believe Daniel is waiting for the glow to die down before executing a plan already conceived to move on.

Sorry I missed your previous posts, haven’t been keeping on top of this thread recently tbh.
