As they got to the quarters or semis he was resting their players for league games and playing his strongest team in the Europa. brick or bust - a bit like us this season.

The difference is that he wasn't in a near relegation scrap....come on, you can't really compare the two situations, we've plumbs much worse depths this season

Neither were we. We were never close to the bottom three in terms of our points haul. There was a bit of a possibility that we could get sucked into it if one of the bottom three started to win some games and we didn't but we then beat Brentford and Man Utd and were all but mathematically safe at that point.

Some would have you believe we started dumping results in Dec when still in the group stages when our season in the league was both sh1t and bust

And the quality of the EL being well bellow the weekly requirements in the PL has played its part as much if not more than the whole "Ange put all his eggs in one basket"

Ok few things there.
1/ did europa league give a cl place when either we didn't prioritise winning it over prem games or utd did?
2/ when we didn't (as you accuse) were we in a title race?

Please tell us when we didn't play a full team in the europa to prioritise a 4th place in the pl (if that is your accusation)?

That's say more about how poor the bottom three have been this season than how "we planned it all along to have a crap league season and get to the EL at the same time".

IF we win the EL and keep Ange for an even tougher schedule next year, how sure are you that we won't get relegated next season (juggling an even harder CL campaign) if we keep Ange?

Why could we not play more like this in any of the games during the injury crisis or some of the recent ones where the EL was the priority? Apparently it wouldn't be worth it because long term.

This guy is a complete joke.

And I think we would have won things under those other managers if we had been able to prioritise a tournament over the league. I’ve never seen us able to do that before so this season is an outlier. Shows you that Ange has been given a lot more leeway than any previous managers.

I remember your earlier post about being an 8 year old in 1981. Same here. Back in the day we were the glorious underdogs. We were the team that had indifferent league seasons but we won cups. By the time I was eleven, after all that glory I was thinking this was the norm. Then the rest of my Spurs life hit me straight between the eyes. Another 4 decades of mediocrity.

Ange has been given more leeway, more budget and definitely more license to contradict himself. I'm not sure about Mr Hindsight. He's definitely Mr Narrative, and just talks a load of baloney to me most of the time.

We're in a season where no CL teams drop into the EL. We're in a season where the new leadership team has accepted the new manager sacrificing the league for a trophy. They know that is the right chapter in the in this novel.

So will be finding a better manager in a couple of weeks for the next chapter. I'm convinced of it.

I'm also convinced those football gods are going to bless us with a trophy in a few days. They know we deserve it.

If we managed to win next weds then his achievement is massive and our first European trophy for 41 years and only the second trophy of the ENIC era means he deserves to keep his job.

The achievement is massive and he doesn't deserve to keep his job.

There is no other way of saying this:

Choosing to keep our worst ever season in the league manager because of one knock out game is absolutely bonkers.

'If' he wins the final.

He would've delivered what it is that managers of big football clubs are hired to do - win trophies (and yes I accept that we're perhaps not the same as most big football clubs and trophies don't seem to be the main aim with revenue being the primary goal instead.... and perhaps that is what has stopped us from actually winning some trophies?)
I go back to the point that you've called our performances this season unacceptable. That's a whole season's worth of games that has led you (not me) to use the word "unacceptable". And yet you're willing to flip 360 on one game. Anyone can beat anyone in a one-off game. You don't base your entire future strategy for next season on one game. Certainly not if the previous 40+ have been "unacceptable".

Yes I would, because he would've failed to get over the line despite prioritising that one thing. My mind already has been made up. I would keep him if he wins the competition because he would've done something that other managers under ENIC have not been able to do. Sack him if he doesn't win it because he wouldn't have done so.

That makes no sense to me.

On any level.
