Andy Robertson

He will be the first player in history to beat father time, its not against logic to know his best years are behind him. I can't remember Redknapp making that kind of signing TBH, maybe he did, for me it goes back to the days of when we singed players like Poyet in the 90s and they were good for a few games then ultimately they got leggy.

He is a winner, he has a great mentality, so if the theory of having winners in the dressing room helps (I don't buy it once they have had their best days gone) then fine, but honestly its a signing thats not for me.

Its not turning a nose up, its just not seeing the game the same

There will always be fans who are clueless (my friends who I trust say he has regressed) but a look at some of their forums and it doesn't make great reading:

Thats just three of upteen opinions.

Look he will get my support when here, but I am faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from convinced
So first one nothing to do with legs having gone.
Second one, who knows?
Third one says he still brings a lot to the team.

Of course his best years are behind him but all we need to consider is whether he will improve our squad. I think he will and I think he’ll be first choice but time will tell.

I said doesn't make good reading and it doesn't and I have seen him with my own eyes this season and he has def lost a yard, not like he is going to gain one out of anywhere.

A better 24-29 year old will improve us also, so not like we have to rely on a 32 year old with his best days behind him.

Anyway it is what it is, looks like he is coming, nothing anyone can do.

All due respect mate but I'd trust the eyes of De Zerbi more than yours in relation to this point.

I've not really seen anything to suggest he has lost a yard. I've seen a player who previously played a lot of games who instead had a stop start season. I saw him have a few poor performances but also some good performances. He looked better than Kerkez IMO and think he should've been ahead of him last year at Liverpool but Slot had to justify the massive money he spent on Kerkez.

And thats absolutely fine, but you could say that about any manager in history and many of them have made wrong decisions. Also not to ignore we have been linked with him for alot longer than De Zerbi has been here and I trust the facts that he isn't going to reverse the impact of age, I am fairly comfortable with my assessment. And the fact I am a massive fan of the player he was, this isn't an agenda on anyone.

Anyway as I say, lets see, we will soon find the real answer in real time.

This isn't a De Zerbi signing. He may be happy with it. But it's been in the works for some time. I'm happy with the signing although I don't think he is better than a fit Destiny.

Souza is an unknown yet for me.
It's a concerning pattern of bad old trends. De Zerbi being pushed failed transfers for his predecessor (Robertson from January, Savinho from August). And Gallagher saying Frank didn't rate him/know what to do with him.

I've disliked Robertson in the past as I though he was a nasty player so my views on him will probably bias. If we do sign him his experience would be beneficial to the team, how slow he is I don't know but we don't know what his role will be, there will be certain games where it might not be an issue, a good defender relies more on their positioning than their pace.

It's more his mobility than his top speed that will be an issue. De Zerbi's 4-2-3-1 uses full-on Walker and Rose style touchline hugging wingbacks. He'll need to get up and down the pitch an awful lot. If he was to revert to being offensively conservative, because of his loss of physicality, that will harm the entire system

We'll only know if he signs and how he is used.

Indeed. And we can also say it about players that all of us have bigged up over the years that have ended up being brick (I've had enough shockers there with young players I wanted who ended up doing fudge all). I still tend to trust those who work in football and who's jobs depend on the players they have in their squad than those of us arguing on a Spurs forum.

Yes, Robertson was identified as a player 6 months ago when we were under a different manager. However, there is no way he is coming in to the club without De Zerbi signing off on him. I thought he was a good idea in the January window and I still think he is a good idea now. Experience and winning mentality are invaluable, we don't have enough of either at Spurs right now.

Concern is you could say that about Senesi and Savinho.

That’s not a accurate. One of his full backs would be that way but during his time at Brighton he would often us a CB or CM at RB who would tuck in and it was only the LB who would bomb forward.

True.

Savinho was described as the ideal Thomas Frank winger so I’m interested to see the complete opposite manager sees him.
One that can only pass backwards but is likely to win a few free kicks in the hope that we can get a goal from the resulting ball pumped into the box?

people worrying about his legs, but people are forgetting he's much more intelligent than udogie, thus making better decisions on the pitch

I don’t mind this kind of signing if RDZ wants it. He is a leader and a winner. I remember Eidur Gudjohnson cameo roles to steady the ship and see the tide out when we needed an old head. His legs had gone too.
