American politics

@robp135 - did you vote for Trump?

Don't answer if you don't want to, btw.

Im a permanent resident, lived in the US on and off since 2005 when I was 19 and full time since 2012. But you can only vote if your a US Citizen which I could become if I wanted to. I’m not through a combination of not wanting to be classed as an American and also just laziness. I will probably do it one day though.

Had I been able to vote I would have voted:

2008 & 2012
Obama twice because I think he overall did a good job.

2016
I’d have voted Clinton as I didn’t like Trump in 2016. As horrible a person and candidate as she is still think she would have probably done a decent enough job.

2020
There were many things Trump did that I actually liked and from a selfish point of view his economy changed my trajectory in life from a financial perspective. But I was sick of the noise surrounding him and felt the country needed a steady hand and Biden would be that. To an extent he was but also clearly unfit for the role and you have to question who was running the show.

2024
Personally I would not have voted. Put a gun to my head and ask me who I would prefer to win I would have said Trump though. My view on US politics and the Presidency, which I could apply to the UK to an extent as well, is that whichever candidate gets in will give you maybe 20% of what they promised domestically but 100% of what they promised internationally. Trumps deviated away from that unfortunately, or maybe I wasn’t listening closely enough because I didn’t care so much who won. But still think Harris would have been terrible.

My wife’s voted fhe same that way I would have except she voted Trump on 2024 because of RFK. I knew that Trump would win though. Just knew way to many people that would typically vote Dem that switched and some of them love Trump as well.

Dug up her grave too and moved it off the Kennedy plot.
Blokes a loon

I have to read up on the Kennedys, obviously alot about JFK and his outward placed persona/legend, but clearly some dark secrets in the family. I've not read a stitch on them beyond the top level stuff, saving it all for a rainy day
