A shocked mouse?

Totally random, this - but! Just came back from the beach, biking through the woods, and saw a mouse sitting completely still out on the track. We stopped and went up to it, but it didn't move. It was breathing however, it sat crouched together. We poked it a bit, and it almost fell over, but then it used a leg to adjust its balance, so as to not fall. But it still just sat there. Like a buddhist monk. Really weird.

Has anyone else ever seen this? Was it in shock perhaps? It just sat there completely defenseless, breathing and alive, but with shut eyes and as if paralyzed, we didn't really know what to do.

Maybe it was injured? Or really tired.

Yeah, so far, the info I've found on the web could indicate that it was either injured or in shock. Just looked really weird, you never see a mouse sitting still like that in the middle of the road.

Came across a bird once. It just kept hopping along in front of me instead of getting out of the way. It was like it had forgotten how to fly.

We just left it. Thought about carrying it into the woods, but ended up just leaving it, hoping it would snap out if it before a cat came around. Regret it now, but we were honestly kind of clueless as to what was going on and what to do.

Well, he didn't fudge it, DSf, that's for sure.

Well he seemed to have poked it with his stick - so I think you misread the post - shoulda gone to specsavers much?

I was gonna propose eatin it personally. Roast it with some rosemary and garlic and a chopped onion.
