2025 Women's European Championship

The only reason the goals aren't smaller is politics, the optics of asking for equality but with different rules is not palatable.
Even though it makes total sense to scale the goal, and probably the pitch, to suit the smaller size of women it won't happen, it's dumb.
I agree
But there are reasons that I think any sane person would agree too
My wife is a relatively tall lady at 5’6
My nice is really tall at 5’10
A male keeper is normally around 6’3… so half a foot taller than my very tall niece (roughly)
I don’t get why propel wouldn’t prefer more competitive elements of a sport
But… the caveat… women’s games have similar scores to men’s games

The USA women’s team have lost to under 15s boys team and they’re regarded as one of the best teams in women’s football, or at least used to be. There’s no doubt women’s football has come on leaps and bounds but it’s got a long way to go catch up the men’s game, probably decades or centuries away from catching up. That’s not a dig, it’s just being realistic. The more popular the sport gets, the more money will flow into the game and they will close the gap to what the men earn which is what they are coveting at the moment.
My mates daughter is 13
She plays like a boy and is comfortably as good as the boys she plays against
She has been coached by dads who played to a very good standard and it shows
The current generations are still a group that came though with much less focus on the things you see in the mens game
It’s not to say it will catch up…. It won’t
But it will improve massively
It’s improved a lot in the last 10-15 years

Once they reach a certain level I think there is way to much pressure put on the women's game to be as good as the men's.
That's a big burden and you can see how that must really take a toll, the spotlight from the pen shootout the other night isn't going to help.

There was a girl at my primary school who was also very good and could hold her own against the boys. But that’s not the norm. There’s still a big gap. It has definitely grown a lot in the last 10 years for sure.

I agree, but I think there's also the issue of many suggestions to improve the game are soon followed by "make them wear tighter shorts too."

I watch Japanese women's football a bit and the pitch is ridiculously big for them. The average height of Japanese women is around 160cm I think. But change the size of the pitch or goals means suddenly they need brand new facilities. Can no longer share stadiums with men's teams (not easily anyway).

The women's game is not the men's game. Anyone expecting it to be, or complaining that it's not the same standard after watching a game, is mugging themselves off. 100 years of no investment and no interest will do that. They're playing catch up and it's not for another 10-15 years that we will really see the outcomes of the current enthusiasm for the game.
