Thomas Frank - Head Coach

As I said, Maddison has to work on a lot of aspects of his game and as I've said none of our players are being coveted actively by elite clubs which says a lot. But Maddison is a better more consistent and more intelligent player than Kulusevski in my opinion whether you want to imply the eye test or the stat test. Kulusevski is being put on a pedal stool by some way above his actual performances over the last few seasons. Suggestion that he is going to be better than Eriksen (despite not being as good as Eriksen by the equivalent age) is a case in point.
I don't think he'll be better than Eriksen or even better than Maddison.

What I do know is that when he played in the #10 he changed the impetus of the team solely because he drove the ball forwards. There is not stat for that, but in a team that was constantly passing sideways and slowing the game down, he is the one player that gets the ball and carries it forwards down the centre of the pitch. Maddison's intelligence for me is too rarely seen and his consistency I don't really agree with. There's not a period of games where I thought he put in 8's and 9's. It's his biggest issue in that he'll play 6's, then an 8 and then be shushing the camera.

Maddison puts 6s in but scores or makes a goal. You cant argue with his output consistency. You get a goal or assist from Maddison pretty much every other game almost guaranteed through his career.

The main problem with Kulu is his lack of pace is so telling in the Prem. It's so frustrating. It's why he will never be a really top player. I'm not saying he needs to be speed merchant, but all the really top players have some level of pace of movement over the first few yards. Kulu doesn't have that. He can run around alot, but pace of movement on the ball is different. He's very good at holding the ball in tight situations with his strength and control, but he lacks the ability to find natural space which Madison does really well. Benni is really good at doing that too. That's why I think we are more look more dynamic with Benni and Madison and a Sarr or Burgvil (legs) in midfield than Kulu (who slows things down to much).

He also has a really strange way of running, he always looks like he is off balance

Yeah you either have to have pace in legs or pace of thought.

Not sure what the stats are for Madders in terms of distances covered but someone reported that Franks 10s need to have at least 11/12km per game in the tank and the legs to defend and then join attack, I wonder if JM has that in him, time will tell

Who is doing that in his current side?

One of the Scandi lads from what I can remember from the article I saw.............You would have to look at those stat sites I imagine.
I doubt any player playing as a 10 is running that much in the football he was playing before
We only had Eriksen doing that for us under Poch and that was best in the league for all players

His teams work alot harder than most though, the point of the article was what would be expected and his teams cover ALOT of distance, so JM will regardless be asked to do alot more than he is used to and that might be out of his comfort zone and or limits.

Franks sides defend as a 9 in a 4/5 or 5/4 depending on opponent, thats alot of work to get through

Maddison was covering a lot of ground in the early part of season before last iirc dunno if we can get isolated stats per game but that's how I remember it

Disagree. Brentford worked hard but in terms of both sprints and distance they're best described as "towards the top of the main pack". Compared to what they've been asked to do under Ange the players will find this a veritable stroll

Be interesting to see the breakdown of players in that as I would think some do more than others

As I say we will see because JM at times looked like he was running in tar this season, I hope he proves me wrong I really do

All the players looked like they were running in tar. They were all being flogged into the ground. By the end there wasnt a single player that didn't look totally f***ed
