Merson in particular has been extremely complimentary with all things Spurs.

There is so much "they all hate us" paranoia out there.
 
Unfortunately that is a red card. The question is: due to the rules and additional observation of the incident, can he escape a 3 game ban?

Nope, if we appeal there is a chance they up the amount of games missed "due to a frivolous appeal".
I think that's the rule......

Seems like the frivolous appeal rule is no longer used. e.g. Liverpool appealed Mane's boot to the Emirates Marketing Project's keeper's face, and did not get extra suspension.
 
sanchez was intimidate by richarlison's speed and was getting desperate as the game went on.
i blame poch for having trippier instead of aurier to manage richarlison's speed.
aurier and sissoko would have been effective against the watford players who were just trying to be physically intimidating.

speaking about physical intimidating our players are being kicked out of the park.
isn't anyone else going crazy just watching it every game ? Man U players were clawing at us, Watford were just checking with every part of the body and some dangerous !

i think we need to be smarter, and learn to gain the foul and free kick. otherwise the impotent refs won't help, and we're going to accumulate more frustrated players and even injuries

We seemed to get a few free kicks but it makes n difference with a cnut like Atkinson who didn’t give a ton that he should have.

refs want to keep the game going - theres this attribute that's overplayed by the media
there's bad theatrics that is conjured up to deceive; however sometimes theatrics can just be used to emphasize a point that the ref can't see, of to force his hand when he won't see.

Not been a rule enforced for many years, don't know if it's still there but when was the last time it was used

Stupid?

In every single PL weekend a defender will put their arm across a player's chest to stop a break and it's a yellow every time. Taking a yellow for the team is precisely what I'd want a player to do there every single time.

Sanchez was unlucky that

1) RichardCharlieson knocked his arm up into his own face and fudged a bit at the same time
2) The ref was, at best, incompetent and in all possibility looking for a reason to send a Spurs player off.

We all no referees are guessing when they interpret 80% of game "situations" so putting an arm anywhere near the face of the "cheating" opposition players.
Is stupid!
Sanchez will know he was a mug and very naive. He'll learn.

It's not stupid to take an action that is incredibly common and always has a predictable result.

When was the last time (other than the fudgewittery at the weekend) you saw a player get a red card for putting their arm across a player's chest? It's rarely a red card when the last man does it.

Sadly it was when you factor in the widely acknowledged poor referee in charge on the day, stupid. No one was that surprised when you considered the ref that was in charge.
Was he unlucky? Yes.
 
I don’t think there’s any way you can say Sanchez was ‘stupid’ as if he either deliberately wanted to elbow the guy (ala Sissoko at Bournemouth last year) or like he shouldn’t have put his arm up. It’s a contact sport, you’re allowed to jockey for position with an opposition player. (Side note, slowing down replays and a commentator then saying ‘see! There was contact!’ As if contact means a player has to throw themselves to the ground in a contact sport is the biggest bug bear on mine, alongside players holding their face when the contact was no where near it)

At worst, Sanchez was running and turning at pace and got unlucky that his arm collided with the players’ face. But his arm wasn’t bent. It wasn’t malicious in any way. He wasn’t to know that in a contact sport, he can’t be physical with the opposition.

All valid BUT (there's always one at this point) if the arm is near the face of a serial diver then surly it is not a surprise when said player goes down holding his face AND (time for of those now) the referee is a total numpty.

Scenario = red card!
Me as a all knowing football zen master would have given a yellow!
Even with video it would have probably been red due to playacting of Richarlison.
