Moussa Sissoko

I noticed something at the start of the game yesterday and kept my eye out for it during the game.

Whenever our players were in possession and Sissoko was 'on' for a pass, frequenly they looked for a better option. Loads of occasions where a player dallied on it for ages looking around before deciding there was nowhere else to go with it but to Sissoko. The amount of time he was ignored and passed around was ridiculous.

This is why I think he hampered our team yesterday. Not his fault but most of our players think he is gonna give the ball away once he gets it.

This is why he always better with Aurier on the pitch beside him. The two of them combine well.

This has been happening for a while. Eriksen and Alli especially will look for any other option first.

Again, the cheek of some of them, if true. They all play like utter t*rds straight out of League 2 and then think they can ignore the one guy who's actually trying and who's playing better than eight of them. Ludicrous.

From The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ham-arsenal-premier-league-woeful-away-record):

It’s hardly a secret that Sissoko is a player who tends not to relish the rough and tumble of a derby. This was the first game he had started for Tottenham against Arsenal, but in 14 previous starts in derbies, seven for Saudi Sportswashing Machine against Sunderland and seven for Toulouse against Bordeaux, he had a record of won one, drew one, lost 12.

Here he contributed to Tottenham seeming oddly short in an area in which Arsenal are often fallible, in central areas just in front of the back-line. Statistics don’t really explain the issue which is largely positional, but for Sissoko to have won the ball back only once in the game, whether by tackle or interception, is very low for a holding midfielder when his side were under such pressure.

The introduction of Winks just after the hour made a significant improvement: he imposed himself far more than either of the other holding players, to the extent that he had 48 touches in his 29 minutes in the pitch, as opposed to Dembélé’s 63 in 61 and Sissoko’s 67 in the whole game.

I have to assume that Poch believes Sissoko can do a job for us and doubt it's one of those "I'll play this player to show the chairman that I need funds for a better player', but on many occasions I struggle to understand exactly what he is primarily supposed to do other than close down space and contribute to the press. I hope that Poch is persevering with him in the belief that what he is working on will click and we will have a player who will be able to change games positively for us,

You keep using this argument, Sissoko keeps having decent games, and you keep sounding stupid. Look at who is giving you likes for a clue.
How many people who aren't Spurs fans share your opinion?

Because every single one I know (except one guy who watches non-league all the time and thinks we should be grateful for anyone who knows what a football is) thinks he's a joke. Our own resident non-Spurs fan, who's seen far more of him than any of us agrees.

I understand the feeling that there's a need to support all Spurs players regardless of ability. For some, I think there's a belief that if we cheer hard enough and hope hard enough, he might turn into a footballer. Neither are a view I share.

Weird that, because I dont know one fan of another team who has mentioned Sissoko in a negative light at all this season - last season yeah there were a few questioning the money we paid, and believe me I know people who will happily dig out a Spurs player at any opportunity. But then again any poster with a bias for claiming he's a joke could say he knows loads of people who dont rate him to back up their argument, just as I could be doing the same so your post is redundant really....

Do you genuinely know anyone who thinks he's a good player? It would surprise me if you do - it doesn't appear to be a particularly common opinion.

I dont know either way because he's not really mentioned which is the point - When you have Kane, Dele, Eriksen he's never going to be discussed because he's not a particularly dynamic player - but that doesnt mean you dont need a player to supplement these types. Noone is saying he is that good, just defending certain people's exaggerations especially in games like the Arsenal one when he was nowhere near our worst player and in the first half was definitely one of our best players, whether that means he was that good or not is irrelative. On the ball granted he is awkward looking, but doesn't lose control anywhere the frequency suggested. If people I knew thought he was a joke they would go on about him all the time which they dont....

Not the only one not to have a sub par performance still shouldn't be on the pitch over to you poch.

Interestingly there were some quotes from Poch when we signed him saying that he offered something different to what we already had and that was the ability to run from deep and carry the ball with pace and power which is something he felt we lacked. I agree with him but not 100% convinced that Sissoko is the player to solve this issue.

He reminds me of Papa Diop. Remember him. Everyone went nuts about his performance for Senegal against France in the opening World cup match against France and on the strength of that Liverpool paid a fortune for him. He was....brick!

No one thinks hes a good player deep down, if he wasnt a Spurs player no one on here would think he was a good player.

He's trash, saying he was the best of a woeful performance (he was still terrible) isnt a glowing reference of him is it?

The only reason he must be starting is we have no option, or the managers lost it.

I wish he wasnt so brick, but he is - using a couple of games in the Euros does not mean he is a wonderful player - International football is a lower standard than the PL

How much more do we need to see of him in a Spurs shirt?

Lamela did more in his 20 minute sub appearance after over a year out than Sissoko has all season.
Sissoko isn’t in the team to be a creator, Lamela is. Obviously Lamela is the better player, but you’ll be disappointed if you think Lamela playing will mean Sissoko doesn’t get any fame time. He only came on for Sissoko because we was chasing the game....
