Manager Sack Watch

Happy to say that Pochettino was the only one I wanted. Great decision by Mr Levy. Had he not got burnt by AVB he may have opted for FDB and we were lucky Utd went in for LVG. Benitez would have been a very good if dour option.

So how many points should Hodgson be expected to get from that lot. Perhaps a new manager bounce against Southampton means they have 6pts rather than 3 after 11 games.

A fair point of course, but if FdB can't have them getting something from Huddersfield and Swansea at their home stadium then it seems unlikely he'd get them going for those much tougher fixtures over the next few games. I think the board have taken the same view, so they are taking a gamble that a fresh face will have them in a position where they can stay up after 10/11 games of the season, rather than be adrift, almost down and then sacking FdB anyway.

Very surprised one of Palace/West Ham haven't made a play for Benitez -- they have money to spend, London teams, and he surely won't want to stay at Saudi Sportswashing Machine where he has no proper backing from the owner.

If West Ham lose tonight, I think they might try and get Rafa -- they should do, if they have any sense.

They will try for Rafa even if they win!

Think I was for FDB, then didn't mind Poch and certainly did not want Benitez. But I was pretty down on footy at the time and wasn't passionate about any appointment.

Safe to say Levy pulled off a blinder.

I was truly scared for Spurs when FDB was favourite for us back then!
I would have shockingly taken LVG rather than FDB all day!

But I was not convinced about Pochettino either, fans are clueless!

Maybe the issue is where a manager is known by three initials? Levy knew after AVB, LVG and FDB have since failed at other clubs. Not sure FSW will be one to regret either!

I really wanted FDB, I thought he would be perfect. Loved what he was doing at Ajax, loved the philosophy of bringing youth through - thought it was a match made in heaven.

At the time LVG was the front runner. I preffered FDB but figured with his CV LVG would be a no brainer.

Poch I had nothing against but no enthusiasm for. Was doing good things at SCBC but at the same time didnt really grab my attention.

When all is said and done, what do I know!?

I wanted FDB as well, i like what he started at Ajax and thought he would/could do the same here. I knew he wanted to get into the English game but he could not have chosen a worse club to start with then Palace. He should have waited a bit longer until a club who did not need its whole playing style changed came along.

He didn't really start anything at Ajax though. He just continued the formula that Rinus Michels established in the late 60s, and which Cruyff and van Gaal tweaked in the late 80s/early 90s. That, combined with the massive resource disparity in the Dutch league, means it's pretty much impossible to not succeed there (think the Celtic job).

Of course Ajax have always had a system that they TRY and follow, but believe me FDB had a massive input there spending a decade setting up what they are benefiting from now, and even longer as a player who was involved backstage.
