Danny Rose

He will be our first choice , but I believe that we will flog him to the highest bidder by next seasons transfer window. I hope it's some club abroad.

I don't think he will be first choice. Davies represents everything Poch wants to promote. Team ethic. Relentless improvement. Bought into the plan. Rose has shafted himself.

He will if we want to get big money. No point feeling bitter, just need to focus on a win-win.

Well given that Milan paid only £15m for Ricardo Rodriguez, whatever we get for Rose will be a lot more than he's worth.

Having a player around the club with a questionable mentality, and who isn't afraid of a public outburst. I say keep him in the reserves, he doesn't deserve to start ahead of Davies. Davies continues to keep his head down, work hard, and turn in some good performances. I know which left back I'd want, one that I can trust to serve the team, and not just himself.

When you burn your bridges with Poch it doesn't necessarily mean you'll never play for the first team again. What it probably does mean though is that your days are numbered.

At 27 Rose is pretty much at his prime. By this time next year his value, which is already diminished because of his injury recorded, will be starting to tail due to age. His next club will probably be his last at the top so his sell-on value will have declined.

Therefore it would not amaze me if he was sold this window. But if Chelsea want him they will have to pay an extra Levy.

I have wondered what face Danny is snapped making during his interview ... it's clearly the same when Britney spears lost that plot briefly .... exact same expression on roses' face.

Pochettino is an excellent manager, which means he is a pragmatist, which means if Rose is the best option he will play.

I predict we have Rose this season, he plays as usual*, and then in the second half he fades out more much like Walker did.

Then in the summer a nice fee no fuss move away.

*Davies has the spot right now, but Rose will get back in. Poch prefers him on the field. Though with Rose another injury is never far away sp who knows?

I really think people are going to be surprised.

Rose will likely play for us again, but he'll be sold this summer and he's gone from being clear first choice when fit to counting down his days at the club IMO. Poch will sell him, not when Rose wants to and not to where he wants, but he'll be gone.

Rose was a great player for Poch but the reason we can compete against more financially endowed clubs is because we have what they don't. We are all pulling in one direction, bought into the plan, everyone works for each other, no man bigger than the club. And you're culture and values are not a result of what you say, but of your actions. So when Rose does what he did, it needs comeuppance, otherwise we loss what it is that allows us to compete.

He'll play for us again, but I think Davies has the shirt now. Poch was pragmatic enough with Walker, clearly whatever blew up did so a fair bit before the end of the season but Poch kept him rotating with Tripper rather than cast a well-liked member of the squad out and create another distraction. He'll probably do similar with Rose considering his tenure here. But Rose can't just come back in, and it can't ever be the same again. He went too far. In the same way Poch going with Trippier in the biggest games sent a message that no one person was bigger than the club, he will do something similar with Rose I would say.

He'll get his chances in cup matches. And if Davies gets injured, he'll play. I wouldn't be surprised if we made a massive move for Sessegnon again though. I just think Rose is done, and Poch will be disappointed with that, but for the bigger picture, it will never be the same again. It can't be.

Rose would never have given that interview if he wasn't injured. He's out since January and it is frustrating being sidelined. Meanwhile he saw a colleague get silly money at City. And other left backs getting silly money elsewhere. Frustrating for him and he cannot influence it from the sideline. Double frustrating.

all very true but it was still totally inexcusable to go public the way he did. Not as though he hadn't already flown a kite about the way he was feeling around the end of last season.

But if no one from the club had a word in his ear about that earlier gaffe they obviously were not paying attention. His seething resentment should instantly have been nipped in the bud, it should have been made clear to him blabbing to the media was the very worst way to go about things.

Maybe that did happen and maybe Rose didn't give a monkeys anyway or maybe someone at the club stoked the flames instead of dampening them. Who knows, it's done now and all parties suffer as a result.

I'll be amazed if Daniel hasn't since read the riot act to the rest of the squad. This kind of stuff has to be managed in-house or we are done.

Why would he not be first choice? He's a better player than Davies in most aspects of the game and suits our style of play better than Davies IMO. I definitely get why some fans are unhappy with him but there's no point keeping him on the bench when he regains fitness just to prove a point. As things stand, Rose is still our player, it's a World Cup year so he has no choice but to put a shift in for us until we can find a suitable club to move him on to (assuming the damage is irreparable).

Luka Modric openly stated that he not only wanted to leave but he wanted to play for Chelsea and he walked back into the side no questions asked. Why has what Rose said or did any worse than that?

Because what Modric did under a Harry regime is different to what Rose did under a Poch regime. As I said, you either have your culture and your ethos, or you don't. You can't say you have a culture and an ethos, and use it as part of your strategy to compete, and then not follow through when the actions require it. The culture is reinforced through action, not through words. If Rose isn't in some way punished, without us looking like we are blatantly cutting our nose off to spite our face with players that would probably want him re-integrated, then it sends the signal that what he did was ok. And maybe that is fine under previous managers. Maybe it is fine at other clubs. But it cannot be fine under this manager at this club because the reason we can compete and finish in the CL spaces is because we have a team spirit, and we are all together, and every player is bought into that.

Just like Walker, I don't think Poch is going to cast Rose out and allow him to be a distraction. He is going to be well liked and a valuable resource for players in the squad to want to draw from because they will respect his ability. But most players that are truly bought into the Poch ethos are going to think Rose was a bit of an idiot and understand that for the greater good, he needs some sort of punishment. And as long as the team are broadly winning with Davies in the side, that's probably how it will remain.

The fact that Rose is injured is a bit of a plus. If he's out for ten months he won't be expecting to come straight back in anyway. But overall I can't imagine it will ever be the same for Rose here again.

I take your point but it's the same principle, Poch has stated that Rose has apologised and the club have accepted his apology, at least that's the public perception anyway. Rose is a major asset to us. I agree with Nayim's assessment, Rose will likely regain his place back very quickly after he returns from injury then after Christmas we will slowly ease him out as he did with Walker.

I like Ben Davies but I honestly don't think him or Trippier are good enough for the level we are at and the level we are aspiring to achieve. They are both solid back up players who would get into most PL sides.

I think Davies is good enough to replace Rose. Different player but he's done enough since the end of January to earn the shirt long-term. Our league performances have not dropped without Rose.
I don't see a way back for him as first choice personally.

In most games we will be just fine with Trippier and Davies but we need Rose in the big games like yesterday. He's also got a nasty side to him like Alli, you definitely need a fair amount of shall we say "streetwise" players when you come up against the likes of Chelsea or a Mourinho side for example.

A very good point.
I do think we've become a lot more streetwise over recent years. We certainly put in a few robust challenges again yesterday (Dier & Verthongen)

We missed this little toe rag yesterday. And will do against all the top sides. Trippier and Davies are both great understudies. However they are both not on a patch on Walker and Rose.
Still feel gutted that we let Walker go. Makes no sense still.

Me too. If we had a genuine, top quality replacement lined up then fair enough but I fail to see how Tripper and a still raw KWP adds up to a sufficient replacement.
