Danny Rose

Is there any proof that the club has actively asked our players to go out in the media and say we don't need to sign anyone? I highly doubt it.

It was suggested a few weeks ago and since then we've had comments from Vertonghen and others along those lines. Given DR mentioned these comments in this interview, its as good a proof as you'll get given that you would obviously never get definitive proof.

Window still open as you say and still a chance for Levy to deliver. I'm not sure people are getting ahead of themselves though given that we've never not signed anyone by the first game of the season - our approach this summer is unusual

Well that was a bit unnecessary, 4 days before start of the season. He should focus on getting healthy and not missing large chunks of the season instead of running his mouth to the press.

What other message can you get from this interview other than that he wants to leave, money being a bigger motivation factor than winning trophies. If he cared about the team this would have been communicated behind closed doors, not like this.

Personally, I'm not too bothered if he leaves knowing it will probably be another world record for a defender transfer and providing we can get Sessognon in as replacement.

Well, if I got paid 100k a week and my employer told me not to publicly discuss its financial dealings (or lack of), which were none of my business anyway, I'd respect that. Is there any proof that the club has actively asked our players to go out in the media and say we don't need to sign anyone? I highly doubt it.

And, the transfer window is still open. Poch is talking about signing up to four new players. People are getting ahead of themselves.

He doesn't get 100k a week, that's the problem lol

I imagine there is a list of what they can or can't say on social media these days - I imagine the biggest one is talking down the club.

The window is still open, but Mopo has always said he wants the players in early so he can get them up to speed - Granted that is not possible with all signings - but one should have been? - The current squad could have done with an extra body for the start of the season with the injuries.

I just don't get this belief Rose is right. He just repeating the Talksport and New International agenda.

Pochettino has always said that we will go our own way. And you know what, it is working. We have finished 3rd and 2nd. So maybe we will win it this year.

When Rose owns a football club. He can spend big on players. Until then he should concentrate on being a footballer, going to nightclubs, driving a sports car, having a pretty but brick for brains girlfriend and using laughing gas.

He's just following a script that his agent has given him. The reasons he has given are a smokescreen for a desire to get a fudging huge pay rise.

Agents take a cut when a player moves clubs. Rose has been with us for a long time and his value will never be higher than it is now. If his agent does not force a move for him in the next few windows, his big payday will have passed.

Any chance of some links to articles where they have said this or direct quotes from players?

Had a quick look - a couple below, but only spent 60 seconds on newsnow. There's various articles where players had said that they're not that bothered about transfers, effectively therefore taking the pressure off Levy is no-one comes in this summer. From Lloris:

Verts saying that its great that others are spending and implicitly that we dont need to

It's this

Graham Roberts commented before hand that he had been tapped up by united

You can't really blame this on the media, though I know it's convenient to do so.

We all trsut Poch. He's also said we need 'a few' (his words) signings this window to add more depth. Everyone else is signing players, yet there's 3 weeks left in the window and we have done anything yet. We've never got to our first game without signing anyone. I can see us getting to the 31st having signed a 3rd choice GK and being told that the players weren't available. We're on the verge on something special but can't do that with a threadbare squad and relying on kids and Dier to cover everyone

You can blame it on the player's agent though. This is exactly the same tactic he used with Walker, disrupt the team at a crucial point and try and force a rift.

The signings stuff is just a smokescreen.

I think now people who thought that there was no harm in the 5Live interview he did earlier in the summer can see what the real agenda was. I totally agree with a lot of what he said obviously subject to the balancing act that is the stadium project but the manner and the vehicle for pushing those views is all wrong. Obviously the sale of Walker has irritated him because he has lost a good friend from the club and they are now earning over double, maybe treble what he is earning but having an interview like that, even if it was done a few weeks back and held onto, is just silly. He will know what effect that will have on potential suitors but unfortunately for him I don't see Levy/Poch allowing him to go this season.

He is going to have to get fit and play this season out before being sold next summer if there is any interest at that point. Given his quite alternative opinion regarding team strengthening to a few of the other players who have spoke recently I would suspect that a bit of needle might be forthcoming over the next few weeks between him and other squad members but he has to accept that. if you are going to lay it all out on the line then you have to accept the inevitable fall out it might bring.

He does seem to reference quite often during interviews that he was very close to leaving Spurs prior to Poch and that he cannot ever get over what the fans used to say about him. Sounds as though he is quite bitter and struggles to let things go despite the fact he was incredibly poor for the most part and probably did deserve stick for his performances pre Poch.........2nd last day 11/12 at Villa Park springs to mind.

Disappointed he hasn't played the party line and I think that means a departure is inevitable but it should be next summer and for a fee that begins with a 6 and not a 5.

My thoughts:

I can't see him wearing the shirt again, the fans will boo him to bits.

He could have dealt with this better and then going to The Sun about it is worse.

Saying the truth isn't always a good thing, actually it's often the wrong thing. And I think this will be the last we see of him with us.

What a shambles.

Dumb interview, with a lot of dumb views.

We came 2nd last season with a team of Google players as Danny puts it. He was a Google player.
What did he cost £1m? He got to be a "superstar" on our system. As did over half the fudging team. Is he going to into training and tell dier, Dele and harry they're all Google players because they cost us £10m for the 3 if them? Good luck with that one mate.

Pay me what I'm worth, a player at 28 who regularly misses months from the season with injury and hadn't won anything, some could you're getting over paid mate.

As Liverpool and Southampton are showing all the money in the game at this level means clubs like us don't have to sell now. You may just regret this interview Danny.

I can't see any quotes from the players there that suggest they have been asked to not talk about the club's transfer activity.

I think he might play for us again - I think a lot of fans will agree with his views so have some sympathy rather than boo him.

All it needs is for us to sign the 'few' players which Poch is after, and then Rose to make some comments in sept saying that he's pleased the club has shown its ambition etc

Right,

So if you are upset with your company and think that they lack ambition and employ nobodies, would you shout off about it so that your employers would read this or hear this?

If you did, the likelihood is that you would be sacked. Rose cannot be sacked as he is worth millions, we unforunately, are not worth anything to our companies (unless you actually are). But he is absolutely wrong to do so and shouldnt have done it, regardless of whether you agree with what he actually said or not so he should either shut up play sub to Davies and we can then sell him next year.

I didnt say that there were. There were some comments a few weeks ago about our senior players being asked to say things publicly about us not needing players, effectively to therefore try to take the pressure of our transfer activity....which I guess is understandable if Levy/Poch realised a few weeks back that we wouldnt have anyone in by now. There were then comments, such as those above, which come across as saying that bringing players in this summer isnt important

Doesn't matter, in my opinion. It's the signal it sends, and the ensuing brickstorm the media no doubt will throw about. It's good for Danny rose and him only, not the club. And he must know this, unless he's mentally challenged.
Rose in his interviews has always told it how it is. I don't buy into all this media nonsense, if a player wants to leave you can rest assured his agent is doing all he can to engineer a move and clubs will be aware of this. What is said to the media is irrelative, it's not like clubs will now think oh well he's said that in the papers we should try and sign him now. He would have been sounded out a long time ago. Interviews like this make no difference to him staying/leaving....
