Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Poch essentially saying the best players don't want to sit on the bench, they cannot compete with Kane... hmm, could have been worded better...

More like mind games to suggest morata dont have the fight in him and Costa is on his way out definitely. All dressed up as we have a better striker than yours and thats why you speak about him.

Good to hear more comments from Poch about the need for signings and better depth. Perhaps the 50% of posters on here who don't think we need any can read the article a couple times

Quite.

He's upping the pressure on board with some of these comments whilst distancing himself from some of the poorer signings.

He's clear he wants new players and better than the ones we got last year (Wanyama aside) I imagine he's not happy about the window.

I'm not sure he's distancing himself from them because he would have selected the players rather than Levy. However, as well as upping the pressure on Levy as you say, he's reiterating that we can't buy top bracket players, which therefore gives him a get out in the event that they aren't up to scratch as they're more risky signings.

I think his comments are very honest and accurate

Well that's Morata motivated enough to bang in a few against us next season

Poch didnt have to mention this. It was a private conversation between him and the player

Better to let others play silly mind games and Poch to simply look after his own business

I agree about his comments being honest, although not really anything we don't already know. But I didn't read the article as bringing pressure on Levy. In fact given Poch's stance on loyalty etc I don't think he'd use a press conference in that way. And it would only damage what seems to be a good relationship with Levy if he did.
If he thinks Levy is not acting supportively I'm sure Poch would make that known to Levy directly if he wanted to.

I read it as him trying to explain how hard it is to sign a quality player when you have established quality players.

As I've said in the transfer thread, the pool of players that are available, will improve us, and want to come, is pretty small.

i'd be wary of baiting Morata, he's twice the player Costa is, and twice Costa has been enough
I'm not sure about that. Costa has been annoyingly superb for Chelsea. If morata is close to that level I'll be surprised to be honest. His career to date has largely been underwhelming considering his high profile reputation. I'm hoping for morientes mark 2.

Morata has got a pretty crap goal-scoring record for a player that cost over £50m.
His scoring record is actually quite good. A goal every other game based on minutes played for Juve and slightly better than a goal per game for Real based on minutes played.

It's more that it's over a rather small sample and playing for very dominant teams. A sub or rotation player getting game time in favourable game conditions should score quite a few.

I've always thought he's looked good. Only 24 too. But he clearly needs to step it up a level to be considered a top striker, as Costa was. But I think that's about what £50m gets you these days.

Goals per minutes looks decent, but for £50m I'd expect to be signing a player that has hit double figures in league goals more than once in the top flight, especially by the age of 24. It's £50m for a player who has not yet demonstrated that he can be 'the man' over the course of a season. If it was a straight choice between him or Costa right now, I'd choose Costa.

Of course, he may tear it up next season and I will eat my words. But £50m for a player that is yet to really prove it just shows how crazy everything is now.

To be accurate, Pochettino began by mentioning Morata's statement to the press that he (Poch) had spoken to Morata.

Those no 'them and me' about this.

Levy and Poch are on the same page.

Poch wants some new players. The right players. Levy wants some new players. The right players.

Poch wants better players than we recruited last year. Levy wants better players than we recruited last year. You can see where i'm going with this?

Just a thought....but wanting new players this year might have been slowed down by not wanting to buy average players again like we did last year.

That's quite a imagination you have.

I honestly think we aren't looking for players that will definitely improve us this season.
If they do it's a bonus, but it looks to me like poch is planing for the season after and beyond.
Bring in players he can adapt over the next year to kick on next season.
