Ross Barkley

My point, which I have repeated several times now, is that I don't think those young players on the fringes are good enough at the moment OR that they are trusted enough by the manager to make any kind of impact, not that i dont agree with developing young players or realise its importance.

If Pochettino thinks they are good enough to make an impact and they do then great but if they clock up similar numbers of minutes/appearances as last season while players like Sissoko get used far more regularly then I'd suggest that it will have been a mistake.

If they get similar minutes to last season Pochettino will not have thought that they are good enough.

He has shown again and again that he will give young players genuine game time if he thinks they're good enough. If they're a genuine part of a (22 man) squad and trusted they will get time on the pitch.

When that starts happening and if/when they start adjusting to the level of first team football it starts making sense to start evaluating them from the outside as fans. I don't know of anyone that's shown a good track record in predicting the success of our young players so far.

We need Barkley. Or a Barkley type player. Simple. We don't have enough creativity centrally without Eriksen. Lamella is not a central playmaker ( and I still doubt we will see him in a Spurs team again ), Edwards isn't ready and no other youth player can make us tick in the way Eriksen does. Look at Roma yesterday. We were apparently really poor in the first half ( no Eriksen) yet improved remarkably in the second half ( with Eriksen). Our stuttering start last season coincided with Eriksen's poor form. When he picked up, so did we as a team. We really do need someone who can realistically share this specialised workload. Ideally someone who can take a corner (!) and a free-kick too. Barkley fits the bill as well as anyone imo.

Completely agree mate, but for some odd reason you wont find many supporters on here for Barkley. Luckily I think Poch is one....

Lamela

Same skills set - principally creativity

You must be watching different players to me if you think Lamela and Eriksen have the same skill sets.

You over-rate Lamela and underrate Barkley - just as you did with Wanyama and Dembele iirc.

You can never have enough creative players

We need Eriksen, Lamela and Barkley. All have different skillsets but all are game changers.

Let's take a look at the games Lamela started in last year

Everton a drew 1-1 Lamela scored
Palace h won 1-0
Liverpool h drew 1-1
Monaco h lost 1-2
Gillingham h won 5-0 Lamela scored
CSKA Moscow h won 1-0
City h won 2-0
WBA away drew 1-1
Bayer L away drew 0-0
Bournemouth away drew 0-0

So, ignoring the minnows of Gillingham, Lamela started 9 games. We won three, drew 5 and lost one. We scored a total of 8 goals in those 9 games he started. So much for his creativity and game changing skills! It was in this period we effectively lost the title.

You can if Barkley has only played 4 league cup games all season and is flicking tie-ups at Poch during his team talks because he's so disgruntled at the splinters in his arse.
