Ross Barkley

Eriksen went a whole season with 2 assists the other year - that on its own doesn't tell you much as despite that he was consistently creating - we just never had much up top that year. See also Kane being injured early last season...

Actually, ircc Kane wasn't injured until the Sunderland game on 18th September. 6 games into the season - although I agree we was having a Euro hangover nightmare. However your stat on Eriksen shows just how meaningless these stats really are.I prefer to rely on my own judgement.

It is clear you have rose tinted glasses on when it comes to Lamela. To a certain extent, I will admit to having the same predeliction toward Son. Having said that, I still doubt we willl see Lamela in a Spurs shirt again. There is something going on behind the scene with him and I found the whole of last season's injury shenanigans quite hard to comprehend. The fact he still isn't ready at the beginning of this season only gives me further cause for concern.

Ah the trusty old rose tinted glasses line for when you can no longer argue your position - fair enough mate :p

I've always had the impression that Barkley has tons of natural talent, but has been slightly within his comfort zone. (As opposed to say Rooney, who had a reputation of training like crazy even as a youngster)

If he joins us and takes on the work ethic of our squad in general then this could be a great signing. Not for 50m though, maybe 25m.

It would appear the only thing stopping us getting Ross over the line, is Levy's ability to faff around for weeks for the sake of a few million £££. Let's get this done, get him integrated within the squad asap before Wenger or Conte come sniffing and we lose out! The season is only 2 1/2 weeks away.

Although that sentiment may appeal to some, i dont think it would give us the essence of Levy, which if we admit it, we all kinda like.

Erik can't be that good we haven't hardly missed him at all.
Its not like Hazard missing from the Chelsea lineup, he would be a big loss.
Erik has get back fit and then we can see how things go.

I bet Everton are still after silly money.
Dont believe all the misinformation that will be around Everton's press releases regarding this transfer.

Inter has apparently offered 15 m for him and it was reported that we are holding out for 18m.

In this frenzied market, these numbers seem way too low for me if it is true. It smacks of something not being altogether right with him.

In a world of £50m Barkleys and £55m Siggys, Lamela is easily a £70m player.

He's also on a decent length contract, and a Poch favourite (generally always selected when fit).

Admittedly we don't know the ins and outs of every transfer / potential deal. However to your point on Levy's essence, I would say us fans have seen more transfer targets either collapse or end up elsewhere frustratingly through his penny-pinching, than we've seen signings made where we've thought "wow, we got him a few mill cheaper than expected!"

To tie in two topics within this thread...Levy is a lot like Lamela. There are times i love what he does, but more often than not he infuriates the hell out of me with his dilly-dallying around!

I was thinking about this exact thing earlier, there are stats on everything in football, be interesting to see stats on "collapsed deals" cos thats one league table i am certain we would be top of!

Problem is you have no idea how many of these 'targets' we were genuinely trying to sign....

We need Barkley. Or a Barkley type player. Simple. We don't have enough creativity centrally without Eriksen. Lamella is not a central playmaker ( and I still doubt we will see him in a Spurs team again ), Edwards isn't ready and no other youth player can make us tick in the way Eriksen does. Look at Roma yesterday. We were apparently really poor in the first half ( no Eriksen) yet improved remarkably in the second half ( with Eriksen). Our stuttering start last season coincided with Eriksen's poor form. When he picked up, so did we as a team. We really do need someone who can realistically share this specialised workload. Ideally someone who can take a corner (!) and a free-kick too. Barkley fits the bill as well as anyone imo.
If Barkley is coming to be back up to Eriksen then that's a concern. There's too big a gulf in ability between the two.

It's a bit like signing Rasiak as backup for Kane.

And comparing that to Barkley's?

As you know, I don't hold much by subjective stats rather than actual facts.
:D

That's one of my favourite posts ever.

Did you read it back to yourself before posting? I hope for your sake it was the unlikely, random result of just mashing the keyboard rather than an attempt at coherent thought.

Think of all the brick players we've been saved from. If only the Sissoko's deal would have gone the same way.

Have we really missed out on anyone that good? Petit? Martial and Batshuayi haven't been very good. Even Willian, Eriksen (our back-up) has been better.

Not only is Barkley injured, but anybody we bring in this window will have a fight just to make our bench.

If he actually comes, you will then be claiming to be a bigger expert than Poch?

Why am I not surprised that the doyen of footballing talent otherwise known as GB, liked your post?

You do know what subjective means, right?

Arguments from authority are rarely good ones. Even more so when the authority bought Sissoko
