4 league games without a win, we have to win. But it will be their cup final, and a very tough match. An ideal result would see plenty of different goal scorers from forwards to midfielders to CB. We've missed the odd Toby goal and the whole team need to start putting away chances. Looking forward to the game!

Won't be the last time this has been asked, but does anyone actually know why they choose us as their big "rival" and for how long they have thought of us as their big game? I realise Millwall probably would be if they were in the same division but I can't think of any reason on the pitch as to why. Chelsea at least you can say it goes back to the FA Cup final in the 60s and when they got relegated in the 70s at our expense.
Highly amusing!!! I view the Spammers games as just another potential banana skin in the same way as when we play Stoke, Southampton or other teams like that. Its a game where potentially we could drop points, but really the opposition is inferior in almost every position so as long as we don't take it lightly we should win. The 'don't come much larger comment' is absurd!
The only player in their team who would get into ours is Payet. Not that we would ever sign him mind you given that he turns 30 in March

You don't choose rivals - we're the nearest club to them geographically (who they play consistently) and in East London/East of London West Ham and Tottenham are the two most commonly supported clubs - so lots of local rivalries from that, similar to West London with Spurs/Chelsea and North/South London with Arsenal. one of the virtues of having a spread out fanbase is clubs whose support is more localised see us as local rivals in the areas where we are well supported too.
Plus we're one of the few clubs whose hardcore supporters have given them a run for their money over the decades on that side of things.

Would Arsenal not fall in to that category as well though? They are close (closer if anything) geographically to WHU and also have a spread out fanbase, Arsenal probably have the biggest fanbase in London.

hard to say really. The religion thing may play a part in some quarters and amongst some of their older supporters but having met a few WH fans they mostly see Tottenham as arrogant and that we're somehow trying to punch above our weight. Also, on the field we've proven in recent times to be a soft touch and easily intimidated when something big is in sight. The chance to deny us glory is especially big amongst their fans since Lasagnegate and this feeling has grown and grown amongst their fans. Sometimes I think they'd rather beat us than any other club in London including Millwall. Still though I just see it as a minor London derby and nothing like getting one over the Woolwich and Chelsea.

Lots of Essex supporters- majority of the time in the same league - Although we are more successful up until recently competing for mid table- 80's both had good firms.
They genuinely see themselves as a similar sized club if only they had a bit better luck / ownership they would be at our size and they consider the fact we don't see them as a rival (3rd?) as arrogance.

Not as much as us in those areas that West Hams support traditionally comes from (East London and Essex etc)
9 times out of 10 if you meet someone from out that way they'll e a fan of either us or them.
