Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

It's not as simple as just saying that players are out of "form". Form affects us all, yes. But there's something deeper going on here. Players aren't doing the things they used to do. Our whole build-up seems slower. Players are taking more time on the ball. We are resorting to passing it in front of the opposition box and eventually taking long range pot shots. It's reminiscent of that awful AVB era, the part where we didn't have Bale.

Maybe it's down to players getting comfortable after signing new contracts. Maybe there's something going on in the dressing room. Maybe it's going to be as simple as a moment where Harry Kane comes off the bench and galvanizes the team back into form. None of us common fans know, but something is definitely wrong with the players right now.

Poch managed to clear out Adebayor, Kaboul, Capoue, Lennon and the other bad eggs that were upsetting the balance in the dressing room the first time he ran into trouble here, and he managed to turn things around quite quickly. But he has only had a rut as long and prolonged as this once before in his career, it ended up with him being sacked from Espanyol when he couldn't stop it.

Do wonder how many people that were proclaiming they wanted Poch to be here for 20 years in the summer, or that they wouldn't take second place if offered it now after the City game, might want to acknowledge they were being macarons now.

Its easy to label people as macarons with use of hindsight. So 'macaron' is a little too strong for my liking. But with that out of the way, the rest has some merit.

It's baffling trying to figure out why we were so bad individually and collectively last night. There doesn't seem to be one catalyst or event that caused the performances of the last 5 games. WBA we battered them to be fair but didn't take our chances. But we were dreadful last night and average in the other games.

How do you explain ALL of the creative players disappearing for practically all of the season so far or at least for large chunks? Even the defence are at it now!

Hope it's just a bad run and not a sign of something wrong in the dressing room or something deeper.

We know there will be two outcomes.
1) we get better between now a Christmas 'Ding Dong Merrily'
2) We dont.......and we will get a managerial 'vote of confidence' coming down from on high! Not so ding dong!

I prefer the off topic pages on here after loses as its like post Brexit Britain on here, end of the world.

Since last season Spurs have lost a handful of games, in the league we lost 6 games all last season and remain unbeaten now, there is always going to be a plateau in a season and we have maybe hit ours, with injuries and new players not yet firing. Emirates Marketing Project had the same and Man United look to have a season of it, what I strongly believe is we have the players and the manager to bounce back like City have.

Talk of Poch into his longest period, player boredom or not good enough, that just crazy in my opinion, this ship is steady, steadiest it has ever been in the last 50 years

Someone said on the BBC site last night that we look alike Emirates Marketing Project circa 2015 missing Aguero and Kompany

i still say that if you take out the two key players in any top side they will be significantly weaker

Are arguably missing 3 as Dembele hasn't been anywhere near to match fit yet

It's starting to happen................

I didn't expect us to be up there in terms of winning the league. I expected United, Pool and Chelsea to be better (only United have stayed the same so far).

We're a way off winning the league until we get more creativity, experience and rid ourselves of our weak mentality.

Testing times, but the squad and management simply have to ride it out. It's generally been an upward curve since Poch arrived. However so far it looks like he made mistakes in the summer transfer market and is failing to address out ability to creatively break down teams and create genuine goalscoring chances.

Young manager, young team. Just have to let them grow

Spot on, and I can live with that as long as we learn as a club/team.

Liverpool get rock and roll football we get the Bay City Rollers greatest hits ;)

I have not lost faith in a guy who has rebuilt us and led us to our highest ever premier league finish. We are going through a blip

Good post.

That's probably as good a post as you've ever done on this topic; if i could multiple like it i would..

Edit - apologies if that comes across in the wrong way...

To lose "faith" as you put it in Pochettino this quickly would be rash.

My biggest concern regarding our current situation is his recruitment judgement. I looks as if he now has the final say on who comes in and up to this time I'm a little underwhelmed by his choices.
We are now have all our eggs in the one basket with Kane as our only experienced EPL striker, this has been compounded with Sons topsy turvy form for whatever reason. My thoughts on Sissoko are well documented. George looks lively. JV is working hard, but is still some ways off replacing Harry for whatever reason.

Wanyama looks great and does his defensive midfield job with aplomb, unfortunately and for some inexplicable reason his arrival looks like it may have caused waves throughout the squad as it meant players changing roles. I'm only surmising that his arrival as the big Pochettino favourite in this important role 'may' have put some noses out of joint in what was a very close knit bunch of young "friends".
Dier looks to me to be a popular lad with in the group, but spent some prolonged time earlier in the season on the bench until Tobys forced absence.
It just could be a reason for this current loss of form from some of the players as they come to terms with the 'new boy/boys'?

I think this could very close to the truth. Last night was the first time I began to wonder if there is some unrest behind the scenes. Not yet as severe, but worryingly similar to Chelsea last season who went from Champions to looking like a bunch of strangers

Can't see the problem being wanyama tbh. He was brought in to increase depth in the squad in a certain area, I just think it's unfortunate that Dier and wanyama have yet to gel together when playing and the injuries and suspensions have meant they have been shuttled about.
Together with a short pre season to work on the next stage of the team and tiredness from internationals during the break it's taking longer than we would have liked.

You or I won't see or have a problems with him.
We are not talking about young men in a very close knit unit.
It might or might not be the case, but I could explain a big drop off in form.

Ditto; I also think Dier is the last that can complain; he's been very immobile and ponderous most of the time he's played imo; I actually think had Wanyama played vs Monaco instead of him then we might have had a better start to the CL group stage....

The Chelsea example is an excellent one.

We haven't anywhere near played to our known potential yet and we are sitting 3 points off top, haven't lost a league game, have only conceded 4 league goals and are awaiting the return to fitness of our star striker. Not much to worry about there for me at the moment.

You mention we are way off winning the league. That's my point. Winning the league should not be our expectation.

In Europe we've been poor. But we have a young squad most of whom haven't played in it and a manager who's never managed in it. Our expectation shouldn't be very high to begin with.

Your missing the point here, it's not about football per say.
It's more to do with mood and attitudes amongst the younger more fragile members of the collective.
It can all be comes as a distraction and leads to unrest and bad feeling.
It might explain this decline in form in some small way.

These are not a football matter of why a certain player was purchased.
