Vincent Janssen

The rumours though were that Poch didn't rate him any more, hence being hauled off at HT in the final game of last season. I guess we'll know as soon as he's back, however us signing someone above him in the pecking order would be a clear sign

He had a poor game just as the whole team had a poor game against Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

I was very impressed with his game yesterday, i am not sure what he looked like on TV but his running, movement off the ball was a joy to watch. He helped change the game when he came on and it was good to see.

Looked great on tv
he pulled them everywhere

That's good, as you know its not always easy to see how a player performs over 90 minutes unless you are at a game. For myself i never relized just what a great player Lineker was until i saw him at the Lane in a Spurs shirt.

Jannsen reminds me of shearer the way he plays...

When Shearer started he was coming in off the wings for Southampton. Shearer was more like Kane in the second half yesterday at Blackburn.

The early Southampton Shearer version was superb, although he had a great carrier I would think it could have been even better except for some very bad injuries - he was some play at Southampton!

I doubt we would play them as two out and out strikers. Kane would drop back into a number 10 type role with Janssen as the number 9.

I'll happily have a wager with you that we'll see Kane and Janssen on the pitch at the same time on several occasions this coming season.
Why would you play one of the best #9s in Europe out of position? That would be like playing Lloris at LB to accommodate Vorm!

Of course over 60 odd matches it will happen occasionally, but I don't see it happening very much.

Poch is also quite orthodox in his subs in that he does straight swaps with his WFs (usually directness on for guile), then refreshes either the ACM or CM2.
It would be absolutely nothing like your analogy.... While Kane is a fantastic number 9, he is also a very good number 10, I would say that Lloris isn't even amongst the best 25 players in the Spurs squad who could play left back, whereas Kane is probably in the best 3 or 4 at playing number 10. Kane moving to number 10 is nothing new for us, I noticed that it happened a few times for us last season with Son/NJie playing further forward than him when we were chasing a game.

Also if you watch Kane, he has a preference to pull out to the left and come back inside on his stronger right foot..... From the videos I have seen of Janssen it appears that he likes to do the same but instead seems to instead naturally pull out to the right. If chasing a game we could use that to exploit Alli making his runs through the centre with Eriksen and Lamela, our attacking right and left midfield players playing their usual game coming inside.
So GB.... That's one game played and one game where Janssen and Kane were on the pitch at the same time. As I said previously I think this will be pretty standard when we are chasing a game and we may even see the pair of them playing together in some of the home games where Pochettino expects the opposition to do very little attacking.

Thoughts?!?

The more I see of this guy the more I like, no scrap that, the more I see of this guy the more I love. Sure he did not score but he works so hard, he really gives everything. He is even better than Kane when holding up the ball, he closes down, he wins tackles, he leads the press from the front and he is good in the air with a very good first touch. From what I have seen the goals will definitely come, and he has to start next week against Liverpool

Do we need another forward then who will actually sit on the bench? Or are we happy with a Son,Chadli type as back up....

He looks too good to be a "backup" player in my opinion.

But actually good enough for the kind of rotation where we can "rest" Alli, play both Kane and Janssen. Gives us tactical flexibility, competition for places, cover and real quality on the bench.

Though a lot of that is due the versatility Kane provides. Time will show if Janssen also has the versatility to play as a #10.

Was impressed with Janssen today, looks strong and aware of players around him. I think he'll get goals. Was nice to be back at The Lane and pleasing to hear how poor we are and that Poch hasn't a clue, I'd forgotten that during the summer. I wonder why people pay so much money to watch a bad team!

If either Janssen or Kane gets injured we are left with just 1 central striker.

Neither Son or Chadli are central strikers.

We need a striker young and with a lot of potential who can look at Kane and Janssen and realise that they are playing for a manager who will give them opportunities if they take their chance. Two seasons ago Kane was a bench player and took his chance and look at him now. People on here in the summer that Janssen will be a backup for Kane, because of the way he is applying himself Poch is giving him a chance.

We are in the CL and want to battle for the title so it essential we have another striker IMO

So that's two games played and two times with Kane and Janssen on the pitch together.... How much did you agree to for that bet Gutter Boy?

Not sure you will see them both on for the start - Kane may start on his todd.
