The General Transfer Rumours and Speculation Thread

If I remember correctly, we sent scouts to some Marseille-Rennes game earlier this season, before Dembele had broken out. I'd suggested we were looking at him then, rather than Batshuayi (who everyone assumed would be the one we'd be watching). So, this transfer would delight me if only because I actually predicted something right for once. :p In all seriousness, though, where would we play him? He's two footed, works like a demon in training, is scarily talented...but plays on the wing (either wing, really), and we currently have Son, Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli and N'Jie for those wing spots.

Again, this might be a case of getting a player with high potential aboard (as with Tielemans) despite there already being a player available for his position, but it doesn't fill a gap.

There's meant to be a lot of very big/rich clubs sniffing around him too, so we might have a bit of fight on our hands if we are interested.

Njie may not make it here and Chadli will be off in the summer IMO

We have Pritchard to come back who will get a chance under Poch and we have Onomah too who I think will drop back into midfield at some point

Right, but that's where our willingness to blood him and (if true, big if) the bit about us being open to the possibility of loaning him back for a season would help.

I think we've got to give N'Jie some time. Chadli might be off this summer, I agree, but I'd rather he stayed - say what you will about him, he has a scary knack for scoring goals out of nothing. :)

Pritch and Onomah - hmm, difficult ones. If Pritch is good enough (and tracks back enough), we could try him at CAM, while trialling Onomah deeper in Dembele's role.

Hopefully. Let's hope that his agent isn't after an early pay day and advise him accordingly

I managed to find a photo:

He looks fruity! And did you pic off chich? That white stuff looks rather suspicious

It would be best for Chadli to go to a club where he will get games and he won't get them here as he doesn't work in our new system. The talent is there as you could see vs palace (what a goal) but the work rate isn't the (as seen vs Dortmund where he had 15 touches of the ball)

Njie may turn out to be great but he could also not. Was just saying he may not be here long term

Onomah for me could turn out like Dembele once he is fully developed and Pricthard looks great every time I've seen him play ... Unfortunately he hasn't had the chance with us yet

Apart from when he has shown the work rate, like when he came on against Liverpool and he was hardly alone in struggling against Dortmund.

He came on as a sub and didn't create a chance or score a goal

He did make one tackle in if area if IIRC

You can't judge a player on a 25 minute cameo you have to judge them Over time

I've not said he is a bad player I've said he doesn't work hard enough for the way we play now.

The reason I refer to Dortmund was because the stats were in a site talking about how poor we were and he was by far and away the worst player contribution wise

Under Poch we won't carry passengers and he is a passenger in a high pressing system

IMO we don't have much depth in some roles, nor the ability to change things up. Against Dortmund I think we saw the result of not having a like for like swap for Dembele and Dier, whilst also seeing a lack of cover for Kane. Carroll and Mason are both capable of covering a couple of positions on the field, but aren't looking like they are going to push any of the first teamers out. It is also true that whilst we have been without N'jie we have had very little on the bench in the shape of an impact sub. Only Chadli with his ability to play as more of a winger off of the left has been able to give us something different.

Ousamane Dembele could be that player. He could also become an undroppable player, giving Poch a headache as to who gets dropped to fit him in.

Yeah, but we're the only club with experience in having a Dembele in the squad.

I'll go get my coat...

Liverpool have leapt to the head of the queue to sign Ipswich wonderkid Andre Dozzell.

The Reds are already in talks with the Championship club for England Under-17 captain Dozzell, who has the same agent as the world's most expensive player, Real Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale.

The midfielder will not be 17 until next month and the Suffolk side are set to pocket around £1.5million in compensation when he moves on.

Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham were also keen to snap up the son of former Ipswich and Spurs player Jason Dozzell.

Pep Guardiola wants to make Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta part of his coaching set-up at Emirates Marketing Project.

Incoming City boss Guardiola has sounded out Arteta - the two are friends after both coming through Barcelona’s famous academy - who is regarded as having a bright future as a manager.

Arteta, 34, who is now fully fit after injury, is expected to retire as a player at the end of the season, and has been preparing for the future by taking his badges and working at the Gunners' academy.

Former Rangers and Everton star Arteta is also close to Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and there could be coaching options there.

He has said Pochettino is “like a father” to him from their time together at Paris Saint-Germain, where the midfielder was sent on loan by Barca as a teenager.

It is unlikely Arteta will stay at Arsenal in a coaching capacity, even though manager Arsene Wenger has said he has a big future in the game.

There are also doubts over whether the Gunners’ academy director Andries Jonker will stay at the club after this summer.

Arsenal are spending big on recruiting for the academy and improving facilities, but Jonker has not proved to be universally popular.

They recently brought back legendary midfielder Liam Brady as a club ambassador, but also to oversee loans for young players.
