Nabil Bentaleb

He's an important player for us and there will be plenty of opportunity for him. He would provide another option for us in midfield in what will be a long season, especially with Europa and FA Cup action to come plus the Xmas schedule.

No doubt. Anyone doubting this has a very short term memory and I am looking forward to him coming back in to the team but there's no rush also as Dier and Alli are smashing it.

Bentaleb has some things to work on but he's one of my favorite players at Spurs for good reason, I'm certain he'll shine during this season.

IMO moving him on would be a very big mistake by the club. He is an extremely talented young man and is only going to get better.

This!

Personal opinion (for whatever its worth), I've seen KWP several times, don't see it, and in the modern game I think his size is a massive disadvantage.

I don't think it is a coincidence that with our current line up (first 11) we don't get bullied/overrun as much as previous years. We have fairly physically imposing side (Walker, Jan, Toby, Dier, Alli, Dembele, Kane and even Lamela isn't small), really only Rose (who has a very aggressive approach to game) & Erisken who don't fit the bill.

To be a small player in the PL, you have to be top tier exceptional, I don't see that in KWP (but I absolutely could be wrong)

Walker-Peters is still younger than Kyle Walker was when we signed him from Sheffield United. Walker then spent half a season at Sheffield United on loan, half a season on our bench, half a season at QPR in the Championship and half a season with Villa in the PL before actually getting games for our first team.

Seems way premature to start casting judgement on Walker-Peters.

Are we judging him on an early season game against Man Utd over the rest of his games for us? In the summer most posters on here would have been saying that he was a key player for us going forward. I know that Dier has been sensational since but we definitely still have a place in the squad for Bentaleb. He is also still very young and has the potential to get a lot better yet. I am sure that we have enough games to keep him, Dier, Alli and Mason happy and as the season goes on having the option to switch between them will become increasingly important.

I think he and all the our young midfielders will not wait around on the bench for too long, they will want to maximise the recent good form to their advantage, who can blame them. We are, to a small extent victims of our own success, we must try and give Mason and Bentaleb and lets us not forget Carroll, as much game time as possible, this is not going to be easy in the league ATM and we are not sending out weakened teams in the Europe either.

Some may say a nice problem for Poch to have?

Edit - I'm not advocating selling anybody, I do think we have some very good young players who will be very sort after

Balderdash, there is an embryo inside Mrs Janine Rawlinson of Pimlico who is destined to be the finest left back ever to play the game.

Juve are sniffing around but we're trying to tie him down to a long contract
Where are they sniffing?

I dont care if bentaleb is young or costs a bomb, i rate him with the same yardstick i use against other epl players in the same position. If he isnt good enough to win games, just get him off i say. If he is young and has bags of potential and needs time to learn, lets loan him out.

You make it seem as if he has never excelled playing for Spurs

Starting to believe his own hype I think.

A dip in form does not equate to believing his own hype in my opinion.

I think having a error-prone player in the team, especially after his blunder costs us a match, will destroy the confidence of other players.

And are you categorically ruling out the fact that his dip in form is not down to the inconsistency of youth considering he is still just a 20 year old kid?

But you comments really dot not surprise me, if you check the Harry Kane thread there are a number of posters who could not wait to reel out the negatives during his barren spell earlier in the season. And of course if you check the Dembele thread there are numerous people who thought we should have sold him during the summer.

If we could sign a top CM I would send Bentaleb on a season long loan.

Jordinho were you saying that when he was an integral part of our midfield that finished 5th last season? Specifically were you saying that after his combative performance and lovely assist against the Goons at the Lane last season?

He is starting to seem a bit tempermental and has an ego

Forgive me I missed him being temperamental, when was that?

I think he has proved he is good enough to be a part of our first team squad, as to whether he is good enough to start in the league every week well that is for him to prove himself. And even if he does not make the starting 11 so what? Is it no shame to to have a strong time bench, maybe he will have to wait until someone gets injured or suspended, that is not a bad thing.

The amnesiacs on this board amuse me. It sometimes seems once you have had a dip in form or a few bad games all the good games you have played previously are forgotten. If Poch had listened to these people both Rose, Mason, Walker and Dembele would have been sold by now.

Its no shame to be on the bench but it would be a shame if a good player leaves in search of game time. I think i have been fairly consistent in my views about Bentaleb (if you search), so I guessing I am not one of the amnesiacs you are referring to in your generalization.

It is way too early to make any judgements on Bentaleb on this season alone. We know he is a good player, I'm sure Poch knows he's a good player and there are going to be plenty of games for him to be involved. He is young and has bags of potential, but that does not mean we should loan him out. He's good enough for this league and for a team that has finished 5th in the league. He's a full international as well and has a world cup under his belt.

The guy is someone who will challenge for a starting place, and not one that will struggle to even get in the team. Therefore sending him on loan is a non-starter for me. He doesn't need to acclimatise to the league, and he's pretty much proven in the EPL. What will sending him out on loan actually prove?

I couldn't tell you what I said without checking, but I have a feeling I was never completely sold on him. I definitely thought CM was a priority this summer. His form started to dip last season and at the start of this one he was terrible. He wasn't concentrating, just coasting, and definitely needed removing from the starting lineup.

We need to remember that Benteleb is a foreign signing that has only been playing at pro level for a couple of years

My concern is that he doesn't excel at anything in an impossing way - a bit like Jenas. I actually don't know where Bentelebs best position is. I know will sat CM, but he has a lot of fwd as ability and can look a bit vulnerable at CM.
You certainly don't look at our current XI and say "x" is lucky to be ahead of Benteleb

We were exremely lucky to see him as consistent as he was for as long as he was when we had no competition or real cover for him. At 19/20 as the deepest central midfielder in the PL that's almost unheard of at our level I think.
