he is a player we tried to sign long before Mitchell arrived. Of course he may have done his black box analysis, but my guess is he would have been signed if Mitchell was here or not.

There are only so many players available who are good enough for us but not of interest to the top sides. Given that we are linked to pretty much every player around in the press, it would be remarkable if we did not sign players that we had been linked with before occasionally.
