General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

I hope this Lamela rumour is flimflam - how reliable has DiMarzio been in the last year regarding us?

If we are goung to loan or sell him, we can wait until January if he hasn't performed by then. Long season and he may come good. Unlike Soldado he still has many years ahead of him and a bad start this season doesn't automatically mean he'll ALWAYS be brick.

Why's everyone so excited at prospect
Of lamela leaving? He's been awful but we won't buy anyone to replace him. Rather keep
Him For numbers alone

I don't know. Part of me wants to keep Lamela, another part thinks it could be wise to just cash in. His confidence looks shot. Nothing is going right for him, and haven't for a very long time. It seems to be going the way of Soldado. Can't seem to shake the pressure of having to live up to the price tag. It sounds stupid, but I'm pretty sure he'd be a lot better for us if he'd only cost £5M or so.

I know what you mean. However, Soldado was more urgent as he is 30. Lamela has years ahead of him and may just need a while out of the spotlight. With the squad we have we should be able to afford him that. Soldado's position was as "top striker" so his failing was understandably more glaring, especially given his age and experience.

It's one thing getting shot of Soldado after two years; if we do the same to a young Lamela at this stage, what advert will that be for us to attract similar young skillful prospects to come to us over CL clubs in future? Especially those from non-English cultures?

I say bench him for a while, see how he does until January and then revisit. Still brick by then, by all means loan or sell.

If you are right and it is simply a question of numbers, I'd rather make room for Pritchard, Alli and Onomah than keep an "awful" player.

...and if those players "flop" in their first years would you then start blaming Levy for just "being cheap and relying on kids who are clearly not ready yet"?
In fact, after two years and they still don't perform, would you want them sold too?

To be fair to Jimmy I a not sure he would, but sure as brick they will be some who do.

Hmmm, Chrome translation indicates it is just that Inter are chasing a forward and are looking at the bolded guys below... you guys made it sound like Lamela was the only option.

Perisic , but not only. We told you at this time the market alternatives Inter, chasing a striker to strengthen the rose of Mancini. Borini and Lavezzi alternatives to Croatian Wolfsburg. But there's more: the notebook of the leadership Nerazzurri also Lamela .

Difficult negotiation, but the former Roma is one of the ideas the Inter. Today, surprisingly, contact was made with the English club. There would also have an agreement in principle with the Spurs, in figures similar to those of Perisic: 6 million for the loan, 14 for ransom . Tomorrow further contact with the prosecutor, to try to tighten awaiting the response of Wolfsburg to Perisic.

You misunderstand me.

I was replying to WestBerkshire's specific point that he would rather keep what he considers to be an "awful" player to make up the numbers than sell him and not replace him.

My response was to West Berkshire's hypothetical scenario. If there was a player at Spurs who I considered to be "awful", I wouldn't want to keep him to make up the numbers. I'd rather get him off the wage bill and give more opportunity to young, up and coming players who I believed would contribute more to the team.

Would you not rather sell him and reinvest the money in a replacement or are you one of these who believe we've a youth player to play in every position and take us up a level
