General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

i imagine we'll start the season with Chadli in the LWF and Kane as CF and If Berahino arrives im pretty confident it will be as primary cover for Kane and the LWF position, of course that may change as the season wears on but that's how i feel we will start off.

i know you couldn't possibly rate Soldado any lower but until he's out the door he is an option available to us, he's on the bench for the United game and then next week he leaves and is replaced by Berahino (again is what i imagine will happen) with it looking like this Werner lad will replace Adebayor whenever he decides to agree terms with Villa.

so IMV Kane + Soldado for United
Kane + Berahino from Stoke onward
Kane + Berahino + Werner at worst from the end of the window onward

that isn't really the crisis it's being being painted as IMHO and frankly it's all bit of a mountain out of a molehill

We will not spend £20m on a squad player - no way. I agree though that if he signs now it will be a month or so before he is starting but our biggest issue going forward is pace - the fact that Lamela is so poor, there is a spot for him as a forward.

For me berhaino as a 9, Kane in behind eriksen left and Chadli right works...... as does kane 9, Berahino 11 with eriksen in behind and Chadli right would also be good. You could even have pritchard or Dembele right and we have a bit of everything. Pace is badly lacking and he would be one option to help us ( I personally think we will need to replace Lamela or Townsend with a pacey winger also.

The fact Soldado wasn't even offered a spot to fill the numbers at this tournament show that he has a move agreed or that his stock is that low. I doubt he'll be involved and he is a player I want away from our squad

i think it'll be closer to 15m for Berahino but anyway - first choice 'backup' for two positions could potentially see him play more games than either of the players he's behind in the pecking order - we play a lot of games over the course of the season, provided we do well in the cups - so it's more a rotational position than a pure back up. add in his age/potential then i can easily see the club paying that for a player not instantly expected to be a starter.

Personally I think Liverpool have signed enough fire power to beat most of the non-top-six teams, and that's where they will pick up a lot of points. I don't think they have the team to beat the top six teams.

Where as we lack the threat up front, other than Kane, Ericsson and chadli we don't have enough other options.

I think we have a better alround team than Liverpool, but we will struggle to score against the teams below us, and that is where we will drop more points.

I think you're right there. Last season some of our poorest performances were at home to weak teams. Whereas we competed very well for the most part against the best teams. I think we need more of a direct threat, the kind that will drive at the opposition. We miss that kind of old Lennon (not recent Lennon) or Defoe kind of player who will put teams that park the bus at WHL to the sword by just getting the ball, running at them and shooting.

Yeah, but it's Inter. Different reputation, which I think also plays a role. By that logic, Rapid Vienna would stand a better chance of signing him than AC Milan, since Milan isn't even in the EL. That's another thing that's dogging us, in addition to the fact we don't make CL: reputation.

Need to be signed by midday Friday to be in squad so I'm really hoping someone joins to give everyone a boost ... Can see real beating for us come Saturday myself unfortunately

We clearly need to sign two or three attacking players to give us what we currently lack (pace, mostly); to provide motivating competition for some under performing players (Lamela, for instance); and to provide cover for Harry Kane. We also need a CM / DM. And I'm confident that those needs will be addressed before the window closes.

But even if we do sign someone in the next 24 hours, it's unlikely that they will feature much, if at all, against Utd on Saturday.

Nevertheless, there's no reason to think that our task at Old Trafford is a hopeless one. We haven't sold any of our key players. Other than Wimmer, all of our players are Premier League tried and tested. The vast majority of them have a full season of Poch's system under their belts. Those that don't have at least had a full preseason in which to learn what is expected of them.

So our relative lack of transfer activity thus far might serve us well in the first few games. There are numerous past examples of clubs that have made significant changes subsequently struggling for form at the beginning of the season. Conversely, there are numerous examples of clubs that have made modest, if any, changes that have hit the ground running.

I therefore see no reason why we should approach Saturday's game with a defeatist attitude.
