Saido Berahino

also this from paul smith, spursodysey owner:

I have it on good authority that Berahino will arrive next week. The transfer business will be done upon our return from USA.
West Brom to sign Lambert.
Sorry if this has already been posted, but I do not monitor the transfer thread.

also this from nathanspurs on coys: My pal is a baggies fan who has a few contacts, I dropped him a text about the tweet WBA put out and he replied saying, 'Ignore it, Berahino will sign for Spurs.'
and
'It will be done by Friday.'
that's a text I received from a friend with contacts at WBA.
Well that sounds promising. Fingers crossed.

Licensed to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. A man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.

Well the Lambert info is in the press with Pulis reportedly keen on bringing him to The Hawthorns (SSN transfer centre talk).

Surely we haven't made these changes in our recruitment infrastructure just to buy an overpriced english striker with a bad attitude.

Changes in our recruitment structure doesn't mean that our signings have to be complete unknowns from Guatemala or Azerbaijan! It's not a question of scouting the obscure. It's a question of scouting the appropriate. It would seem that Berahino qualifies on the latter count, as far as Poch and Mitchell are concerned. The fact that he already has an excellent understanding with Harry Kane at U21 international level will figure highly in that judgement.

As to Berahino's supposed "bad attitude", it's been pointed out in this thread before that there's nothing especially to be concerned about. He's made a few mistakes (who hasn't?) but he isn't a known trouble maker or a bad egg.

It's not about identifying unknowns so much. There are very few real unknowns in world football these days. It's about identifying the right players, the intelligent signings.

For example, Liverpool have spent £20m on Clyne. Good player, but we signed Trippier for a very low fee. He was unsung, he isn't an international, and he wasn't even on my radar as a player, but after he signed I was reading up on him and his stats are amazing. The amount of crosses and assists he puts in is unreal.

So it's that kind of under the radar signing that will be the proof of the new set-up for me. So if Trippier continues his fantastic out-put and wins England caps then it will be a very intelligent and well thought-out signing.

I read what Irvine said about it being too soon for Berahino. I would argue that for all aspiring young talents the appointment of Pochettino has seen Spurs almost become the perfect environment for a young talent to blossom and achieve their potential. It's probably "our thing" right now

He's only got to look at Kane's rapid rise to see what could happen.

Completely agree, and I think Berahino would be a good signing. If he can score those goals with WBA, then chances are he will be better with better players around him and playing to his strengths.

This sounds very promising. Sit quite near Paul in the Paxton, always has that big rucksack with him

I don't think they meant 48 hours for a deal to be concluded, but rather that Spurs would make an offer/bid within 48 hours. How long it takes to conclude it is another story.
