Australia Ashes squad: Michael Clarke (c), Steve Smith (vc), Fawad Ahmed, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Peter Nevill, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Adam Voges, David Warner, Shane Watson

Haddin must be about 45 by now, lots of oldies be interesting to see if you get the same luck you had in the last series with injuries etc

KP with 170 off 149 balls in his 1st knock for Surrey this year

As much as he is a toxic person, if he is firing and scores loads of runs how can you not pick him for the Ashes this summer

Absolutely pathetic from Trott, Cook & Balance

ECB havent got a fudging clue after the winter and how negative England were they go and pick on reputation instead of youngsters with promise

Lyth, Rashid don't get picked and Trott and Treadwell do WTF

A top three of Cook, Trott & Balance is simply too negative, we will lose to NZ and the Aussies this summer and easily

Trott got a good ball, Cook was a little unluck in inside edging onto his stumps, and Ballance played a really poor shot. Trott has scored lots of runs in Test match cricket and was in good form coming into this match. Cook is captain, and whilst struggling for form a little cannot be dropped at the moment as there is no viable alternative, either for the opening spot or for the captaincy. Tredwell has never really put a foot wrong for England. I disagree that the top three is too negative, I'd rather have them than some flashy slogger who may get a quick fire forty odd, but more often than not will be caught at long on for 10. I still believe there is place in modern cricket for building an innings and wearing down the bowlers before accelerating later. Class knock from Bell today, such a shame he got a beauty off the last ball he would have had to face. I fancied him going big today against a tiring attack on a good track.

When have Cook and Trott ever gone slowly then accelerated though, they keep going at the same pace (not always a bad thing by the way). Ballance looks a good find, scores well at a decent rate but obviously needs to prove himself over a longer period of time. The ashes will be a perfect test for him where he'll likely be coming in within the first 10 overs a fair amount with Johnson still on etc.

Bell is too inconsistent and doesn't seem to score the important knocks enough, I can't recall many outstanding match winning innings from him etc. Seems to score well when it's a good pitch or the team play well rather than shining when he's needed most.

What the fudge happened to Cook? We couldn't get him out a few seasons ago, so composed. Now he's like a googlebot in the vice den.

Anyone see that graphic they showed for Cooks batting average last few years.. was something like 85 one year, then 50 then 30 now 15!!
