*** Tottenham vs Besiktas OOMT ***

Slightly vexing that we couldn't manage a draw tonight in Turkey, especially after all the chances we squandered in the first half.

But that's really not what's worrying me about Spurs this season.

To put it simply, we're not as good as we were last season under Tim Sherwood and I think we'll struggle to match the points amassed in 2013-14.

We're already two points down on the identical matches played last season and as the vast majority of those points came against teams who were inferior to us I can't see how we can hope to make-up those missing points against teams who are better than us.

Blame Poch, the players or Daniel Levy but the fact remains that we're regressing while clubs like Manchester United, West Ham, Southampton & Saudi Sportswashing Machine have all overtaken us.

Of course, any new manager needs time to make his team gel properly and it would be utter madness to sack Poch at this stage of the season.

But the way things are going, I'll be surprised if Spurs can manage to finish in the top half of the table.

Chadli is never a striker, did not show any instincts for the job at all.
Townsend only looked good when we put him out on the left.
Dembele and Paulinho were infuriating.
Chiriches and Kaboul are poor.
Soldado needs to start sticking some of these chances away.

I had a slightly different read on those players tonight...

Chadli is not a striker but I can see why Poch went with this. He has a strikers instinct IMO but despite his size is not a lead the line type and would be more suited to the role just in behind.

Townsend was energetic but made the wrong decision pretty much every time. Actually I think he was awful tonight and every time he had the ball I knew it would come to naught. However I still think the right coaching will turn him around.

Tonight I though Dembele was excellent in the first half and used the ball very well, with a mixed bag after the break, some good some bad. He lost the ball in a few dangerous positions in the 2nd half but made some driving runs and did well at other times. He looked shattered by the end of the match and I don't think the formation change helped him or the other midfield players at all. It just made them run more when they were running out of steam. I thought he was arguably our best player on the night.

Paulinho was average to good in the first half and even put in a few tackles. He was probably let down by some poor control and decision making but considering the dross he usual serves up he wasn't all that bad. Playing in a midfield trio helps him really. He was completely invisible in the 2nd half and was rightly subbed.

Chirches and Kaboul are like a comedy duo now. Sometimes the best thing a defender can do is boot the ball away when in trouble. Before the goal they were having an easy time of it really but the they buckled under the first real bit of pressure. Actually it was Kaboul at fault mostly to be fair.

I'm Soldado fan but another night shooting blanks has me at tipping point. Some nice chest passes are the only thing I can recall him doing well.

Lamela also was fairly ****e and my hope that he'll come good is looking a forlorn one now. I've defended both of these in the past but no more.

Lennon was ineffectual as was Capoue. The subs did not affect the match at all and actually made us worse really.

Man U have overtaken us again, but not the others. I'm still confident we will have all of those mugs.

Sorry, but we are just stultifyingly poor and ineffective. Can't defend and can't score. Poor passing, poor first-touch, poor technique in general, poor decision-making, poor positioning, poor movement, poor finishing, poor set-piece play, absolutely abysmal offensive marking... the list goes on and on and on and it doesn't improve, game after game after game. Did somebody say we are capable of winning this competition? Do me a favour, please. Huge levels of change required before that is even the remotest of possibilities.

we need a stable team.

poch has had sufficient games now with all the players, its about time to do make some real decisions.

baldini and levy must back him by letting go of the surplus it will just boost the confidence and commitment of the remaining ones.

i'm happy if we don't buy anyone, but trim the squad and just get the most out of them.

Why? are we back to the theory that somehow time makes a bad manager into a good one?

What did anyone see today (or in 15 games) that says Poch is the guy we want for the next 5 years?

Very annoyed with this defeat. Even though we had qualified to the next stage, it was important for us to finish as the group winners. That would have given us a much weaker opponents in the next round. We only needed a draw but ended up losing due to some shyte defending again. Now, we can expect a much stronger team in the next round.

IMO, Kaboul has to take the large part of the blame for this defeat. It seemed like Kaboul was Besiktas' best player as he created their best chance with his stupid defending which resulted in them hitting the post before scoring their only goal. The match was played at a slow pace as if it was a friendly. It was destined to be 0-0 until Kaboul came up with his stupid defending.

Soldado could have won the match for us if he had make use of the chances that came his way. In fact, Soldado wasted a hattrick of chances which he should have done better with. It is unacceptable to continue to waste good goal scoring chances like that. After being with us since last season, it looks more and more like Soldado will be a big flop for us. If he can't score simple goals in European matches, not sure how he can do so in the league matches. Really can't see him going on a sudden goal run now.

I think Pochettino has to take some part of the blame as well. It was a big mistake not to have any establised strikers in the bench. Thought Kane should have been included. Instead, when we badly needed a goal, we had to bring on Lamela, Lennon and Capoue who are all not known for their goals. Maybe, Pochettino under estimated Besiktas and our shyte defending.

With this defeat, we will have only ourselves to blame if we are to face a tougher team in the next round. Atleast we will have a plenty of time to strengthen the squad before playing the next round in February. Hope we would go on to buy the much-needed players in January.

I think some of us are just sticking to the opinion that 15 games in to a league season doesn't make a manager 'bad' (or great, same as with Sherwood) you may feel that it's enough to draw conclusions from, personally id like to see a season before forming any real opinions.

15 games on we have no style and no idea which players do best in which formations.

backing poch is not a sign that he is a good manager and we must stick with him - its an attempt to consolidate so that we can go on to play consistently good football at a level befitting the players and mangers. always easier to see progress working off a solid base.

A big problem for me is that the team is constantly changing. For the most part I can understand why but I don't think its helping. Last night looked to me as that was a team put out there because they could be risked, a second string almost. With the exception of walker, who needs games and Soldado, the only cf we have fit for the moment I don't see any of them being first choice for the league. Because of the EL and international breaks time in the training ground is limited. The extremely congested festive fixture list isn't going to make that any easier for us. Best we can hope for is that it brings some of the other teams down.

Just caught up with game this morning as I was out last night. There's no point me adding to what I've said time and time again.

Brace yourself for sunday boys. This is looking grim.

Honestly just the fact he's identified bit by bit which players shouldn't be in the first team.

We had Dier Kaboul Chiriches Rose Capoue Dembele Adebayor as 7/11 of our league team at one stage.

I'm pretty sure 5 of team are up for sale in a few weeks. If poch manages to do nothing else but clear out the **** in our squad he'll have done a worthwhile job.

Well, to be fair, more of a major rebuilding program that hasn't even really got going yet. We've still got the expensive garden features we bought last year, but they don't fit in with the new look we're after and we suspect they're a bit of a white elephant we'll be lumbered with. We've looked around at the prices for oak panelling and parquet floors, but we're thinking next month we'll put an order in for a few bits of MDF and some laminate instead.

Edit: It's still not clear whether we've hired Stubbs or O'Reilly, either.

If you brought in someone to restructure a business, you'd expect them to at least get to know the place before making big changes.

Too many missed chance by Saldado and too many mistakes by Kaboul, and this is happening time after time.
we need to buy in January or finish in the bottom half of the premiership.
