Nacer Chadli

I'd say from what I've seen, Chadli is better than Jay Rodriguez. Interested to see if we still go for him, I still would. He'd be a lot more natural fit when playing a second string side or bringing someone off the bench, and he knows the system.

Rodriguez could still come in as our #9 or at least cover both roles. You are right though Mumorn, so far Chadli has done extremely well in essentially the same role. In his current form I don't think it would be too suprising if we saw him end up at 15+ goals for the season, given how he's already got 4 from 7.

Chadli is not better than Rodriguez imo.

Let's not get mistaken here, Chadli has done very well this season but i still see him as a squad player and not a first X1 player. I also feel his best position is on the right of the 3.

Hmmm on his form this season, he's been one of our better and most dangerous looking players. So i think we need an entire first XI if the above is the case.

Is nobody else concerned at how little Chadli does defensively? On numerous occasions this season the opposition's right back has got forward with Chadli nowhere to be seen.... If Chadli isn't the player who is supposed to be covering those runs (which would be strange seeing as how it seems to be Lamela's job to on the other side) then the rest of the team seem to think that it is as nobody else seems to drop in there to cover.

On Sunday after one of our attacks had broke down I noticed Adebayor busting a gut to try to get back while Chadli stood there and then ambled back to the half way line. There was another occasion when (I think) it was Lamela (although it again have been Adebayor - my memory isn't what it was!) had covered Chadli's defensive position on our left and then gradually moved back to their natural position, but Chadli stayed in a really advanced position over on the right hand side leaving their full back with a potential two one one against Rose and in acres of space (luckily Southampton's midfield didn't spot it/couldn't get the ball out there when they own back possession)

It is simply because that is they way that Pochettino is asking the team to play. I think it is pretty clear that Adebayor is being asked to pull the oppositions centre halves around to create space for our 3 attacking midfielders to run into. Chadli seems to have the least defensive responsibility of our 3 attacking midfielders and therefore is the one who most often ends up in the goalscoring positions. At the weekend I noticed one of the players (can't remember which one - might've been Ericksen?) having a real go at Chadli when he had failed to track the run of Southampton's right back as he bombed forward. I noticed that after that Chadli seemed to take a more defensive position (but was then less effective in our attacks).

Why is it clear? The same excuses were made when he was poor under AVB also. We've got a front 4, surely one of those could do what you claim Poch is asking Ade to do? I understand pulling defenders away from the centre is important as I play up front, but you've still got to get in the box as often as possible and he doesn't do it enough, I can't for the life of me think Poch is telling him to stay clear of the penalty area altogether.

Why is it clear?.... Well it's clear to me because just about every time we get the ball and break Adebayor peels out wide left or right, typically Ericksen and Lamela converge in the centre to get on the ball and try to get beyond the opposition's midfield and Chadli looks to get in to a goalscoring position in the space vacated by one of the centre halves who has gone out to track Adebayor.

As of yet I haven't seen Pochettino screaming at Adebayor to tell him to stop doing this and he starts every game for Pochettino even though he is constantly doing this - perhaps I am putting 2 and 2 together to make 5, but from where I am coming it just seems most likely that our centre forward is carrying out our manager's gamelplan - hence keeping his place in the team?

You see it differently - which is fair enough, but I ask you in that case why is Pochettino not giving the player a rocket and dropping him to the bench?

He's the best defensively of any of our front 4.

Its just nitpicking now.

as you said regarding Ade, Poch doesnt seem bothered by Chadlis workrate or non workrate as he plays every week

I think it's perhaps, Poch is biding his time and is playing it a little smarter than AVB, with Ade . It just wouldn't be wise to give rockets and demotion to such a disruptive influence. It's just not in the interest of squad harmony and all that.

By the way , I agree with you, that Chadli could do better defensively, but he's not awful either so it's not really worth mentioning.

I'm talking about generally....of course this season he should be in the first X1.

Saw that and I wasn't concerned as we were lacking an outlet up top, and I'd ade doesn't want to play that role Chadli can . If you don't have someone to pass to immediately after interception, where is the quick transition to attack?

There's a natural hunger for bowls in Chadli that I find completely missing in ade.

Do you think? Personally I think he is the worst of them defensively. However it could just be because he is largely freed up from his defensive responsibilities by Pochettino?.... It does sometimes leave us a problem on our left though with either Lamela or Eriksen having to try to get there or Rose given a really difficult job with two players.

After he got a rocket during the second half from one of the other players on Sunday it was noticeable that he took a more defensive position on the LHS and helped Rose defensively.

Yeah - perhaps Pochettino wants him to remain in attacking positions and it is up to other players (Eriksen, Capoue, Mason?) to help cover our left side defensively.... If so then those players need to do a bit more work there in terms of our defensive shape

Mason certainly did a better job of covering his fullback than the other players who have played there this season.

I honestly didn't see that much of Southampton with Poch in charge, did he ask Rickie Lambert to not attack the penalty box and "occupy defenders"? Genuine question.

Well Lambert and Rodriguez were very similarly used to how we are seeing Ade and Chadli being used if that's what you mean.
