Kyle Naughton ***official sold to Swansea***

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

This is going to sound harsh. But at this stage in his career and with Walker in front of him. For us and him if he left and Fredericks moved up as Walkers backup that might be a good thing. If a player cant grab a spot after a certain amount of seasons then we need to show the young players they have a path into the first team.

I don't think it's harsh, it would probably be good for the club and the player: Club gets some money and promotes a youngster, player moves on and gets first-team football.

For this season though, Naughton can continue to do a job as back-up to Walker.

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

Much much more solid as a right back. Very good game today.

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

Yet another example of AVB's ineptitude. He refused to play any of "Tim's boys" and could have ruined this very decent player's career by playing him out of position.

But he played left back for Norwich numerous times so it's not like AVB decided that he'll play there.

I dunno if that is right or not but he was **** at LB for us and yet AVB persisted and would not pick a young reserve.

His thinking was probably that Naughton has Prem experience playing left back at a consistant level whereas Fryers, who's looked out of his depth against most at left back, hasn't any experience?

Hence why he sacrificed Verts out their and played him out of position.

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

I can't believe what I am reading with some people saying he is a good right back being played out of position.

He is absolutely shocking in both positions. Clueless and braindead is how I have described him from the moment I saw him have a run of sorts during 12/13. Ironically, his best performance for Spurs was against Arsenal away for Norwich when they got a point. He fouled Van Persie as he was about to tap in for the winner and got away with it which gave us a chance to nick 3rd.

He has absolutely no attributes that indicate he can play at any sort of level. Weak, not particularly fast, poor passing and control, limited awareness and vision and definitely unable to read the game in any aspect.

Never rated him at all and it is not over the top to say he is quite possibly one of the poorest players to feature regularly for us since the turn of the century.

Said it once and I'll say it again, he's not a premier league quality player, that's the cold hard truth....

Even before yesterday I was saying he is a pub footballer who is 4th choice (at a stretch). He cannot even kick the ball very hard with his STRONG foot (unlike Rose whose clearances are massive).

The more I see him at right back the more I find comments like the above ridiculous

The rather obvious fact that he had a season playing as a solid enough right back in the Premier Leauge with Norwich behind him should have been enough proof really...

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

He's a decent right-back, certainly good enough as a 2nd choice for that position. Keep him away from left-back and we should avoid any nightmares.

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

Agreed. Solid at right back, always has been. He's more than capable of filling in for Walker for a few games.

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

Done very well in the last two outings at right back after the horror show at left back v Liverpool. Well done Naughton

Definitely. Even if Walker is out for a few months, we also have Fredericks who can fill in too, plus Kaboul and Chriches can play RB IIRC

I'm more worried about the LB situation

Hotspur Related @HotspurRelated

Daily Mail understand Swansea City have made an official bid for Tottenham Hotspur's Kyle Naughton. #THFC

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

I should add I mean that in the nicest possible way. If Walker/Davies got injured come 1st September an we had to rely on Naughton game in game out I wouldn't feel too comfortable. Decent footballer but not top 6 IMO.

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

I was going to come in to this thread pleading that Hull take Naughton but now I see that Swansea apparently want him instead....excellent!!

Ok so IF Walker DID get injured on 1st September, who would YOU play at right-back then??

Re: The Official Kyle Naughton Thead

So far in pre season Naughton has looked a better RB than Walker. At least more comfortable on the ball.
