Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

If Levy and the board genuinely rated Sherwood as much as was speculated then you have to assume that there is something about him and that they would be reluctant to lose him completely at the end of the season.

I think his time with the first team is certainly over but I wouldn't be surprised if the club and him positioned it so that he can go back to his old role or a position upstairs.

Yeh, I think he'll still be with the club too to be honest. Even the way he's responded to questioning regarding it lately suggests that.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

If he has any serious intent to be a proper coach/manager he has to go and get a job. He can't just go back down or upstairs.

If he does just go back to how it was, then he should be unemployable as a manager anywhere, both due to lack of experience and lack of ambition.

Also, I think he doesn't show the character ( and I may be wrong) to sit silently and supportively in the background and if i was the new coach I would want him as far a way as possible.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I think that was GB speculating rather than anything reliable but I could be wrong.

In the end Levy seemingly overruled them both and got his own man (reappointing Broomfield for the 3rd time)

I think Timmeh is about as unqualified to be a DoF as he is a coach. About a year ago AVB mocked his credentials for the job, by pointing out that his black book and influence on the international stage aren't exactly extensive.

Timmeh's greatest attribute has always been is his self-publicity.

He's now been shown-up as a fraud under the spotlight. I don't think there's any way he can recover now, especially the way he's lost any respect the players may have had for him.

You think? I can honestly say that between the periods of him winning the league as a player and him taking on the Spurs job, I don't think I have read a single 'self-publicity' type thing about him in the press?

If that was true and Levy and the board still highly rated him after working with him over five years, that says more about them than it does him.

Ok, I'll refine that a bit. That he was working at his level with his 'loans to Swindon' job, and has shown he doesn't have the capabilities for the level he convinced people to let him work up at.

vI would say it was more internal. We all have people like him at work - those who gain influence by self-promotion, but are actually not very capable.

He has also learnt Redknapp's skill of publically deflecting blame from himself at all costs.

If all he was doing was organising loans to Swindon (and we know he wasn't but we'll let that slide for the moment) and Levy and the board still highly rated him after working with him for over five years, despite him being a fraud with a talent for self-promotion, that says more about them than it does him and whether Sherwood is our Head of Development or not next season should be the least of our worries.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Please levy just ship out all the remaining redknapp garbage that has been left behind...
Ta.

We're back to the same problem with this argument though GB.

On the one hand Sherwood is an uncouth oaf, 20 years out of date with his tactics and Del Boy communication skills, on the other he is a Machiavellian back-room schemer running rings around Mr. Cambridge Double First himself, easily seeing off wonderkind AVB and making a wily old dog like 'arry think he's the real deal when actually he's a monkey.

You can't have it both ways.

So you've absolutely no idea. OK then

Why not? GB is saying he is excellent at self promotion but has been shown up when the spotlight finally shines on him. It's entirely plausible that you can be good at saying the right things but not actually putting them into practice. Sherwood is clearly good at saying the right things (the way he got the contract he wanted and presented himself as a hot commodity that deservingly got what he wanted really impressed me and made me think he is a winner, so I can see why certain people are impressed with his ideas) but actually in practice he hasn't shown himself to be that great.

I'm not as extreme in GB in that I think given time, our squad that's had a year to settle and the backing of Levy to ensure the power lies with TS, he would probably do ok. But then I kind of think, Brendan Rodgers spent time travelling the world developing his philosophy. He studied Spanish methods in depth and has shown he can adept them to the demands of the Premier League and the players he has at his disposal, almost on a game to game basis. Has Sherwood shown any of that or if he just a guy that Harry and Neil Ashton think is a pwopa football man?

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I think self promotion is a fair assessment. Just watch the inteview he gave Skysports after the Sunderland win, it was full of him praising his own win percentage.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I think Sherwood is a self-promoting back-stabbing clown who speaks first and thinks later half the time.

The main problem with GB's argument, in my view is that he paints Sherwood out to be this clueless oaf who is 20 years out of date with his tactics and man-management, yet - forgive me if i'm wrong - hasn't he got an equal or better results ratio than AVB across pretty much all stats (percentage games won, goals scored, points per game, chances created whatever you want to throw in there).

So what we're saying is that Sherwood is one of the worst people we could have put in charge, yet he's still better than AVB?

The amazing thing is that you could say the EXACT same thing about AVB yet you still choose not to go by the concrete evidence (your eyes) and choose to believe his words in a book designed to.....self promote.

We were trying to stay away from AVB in this thread, but yes, same issue as TS, talks a better game than he plays ..

Hence no one is asking for AVB back, most people are looking for a LVG, Ancelotti, etc. who have shown they can walk the walk, consistently ..

The book was more a 'hey here's a guy that had a really successful season and is being linked with being our manager, I wonder how he goes about his business'...right along to having read it and thinking 'yep, that's pretty impressive stuff, it all makes sense, I know what he's all about now and if we back him he will do well for us'.

TS is very good at saying what he has done well and blaming players. He's also managed to maneuver himself into a position he is in no way qualified or experienced for based on the game he talks behind the scenes and the relationships he has been able to cultivate.
