I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Re: Official - Lamela

I mentioned it on the last page or the page before. Anyway it's just an opinion,i don't think he's legit injured. I think there may have been a slight injury to begin with but he's exclusion from team duties is down to something else.

I generally think that the simplest explanation is most likely to be true. In this case, the simplest explanation is that he is injured.

I cannot really understand how some can rationally rewach another conclusion without evidence to contradict him being injured.

I'm not having a go at you here, I just don't really understand how people reach more fanciful explanations for what appears to be a pretty routine occurance.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/feb/11/erik-lamela-tottenham-hotspur-injury-setback

For those who don't want to read: Basically Lamela in an effort to compensate for his thigh injury has injured his back and is out for at least another 6 weeks (Sherwood said weeks but the journo's have deduced that means 6) whilst the physio's get him sorted. On the plus side he will be in England so may actually settle. Sherwood has basically tried to take the pressure off the lad by saying he's a big part of the clubs future.

What are our doctors and physios doing exactly? Is it too much to expect them to nurture and monitor players through their recoveries without something avoidable like this?

This is incompetence - pure and simple - on an asset worth 30 million. I wonder how many other industries would accept such a situation without any form of accountability?

Re: Official - Lamela

Hope he gets a shot this season. If not maybe we should loan him out and hope he does well so we can recoup some of the dosh

Incompetence? The doctors and physios that managed to nurture king through many seasons with a knee injury that could easily have ended his career?

You win some you lose some. The human body is far more complicated than you seem to think, to go through rehab you have to push and strengthen your muscles. There's bound to be some errors from time to time.

Re: Official - Lamela

"But we signed him for the long term and we are sure that, in the end, he will come good for Tottenham and be a crowd favourite here. We are all big fans of him when we see him in training. It is just difficult to adjust to a different style of play and a different language. I'm sure Erik will pick it up. By the time he is fit, he will be fluent."

someone remind me how long does it take a non native speaker to be fluent in English ?

The key in the quote was 'by the time he is fit', and given our record of getting players fit Lamela will probably not only be fluent but might just have finished his Ph.d in Chaucerian literature.

Depends how motivated he is and how chatty he is as well. Talkative and motivated learners can become fluent in a matter of months living in the country of the language they're learning. Everyday conversational English only has a vocabulary of 2000 words.

I'd expect him to be able to speak Ossie-ish by now - English words using Spanish sentence structures.

Re: Official - Lamela

Ossie came over as translator (and pal) for Ricky Villa, so had a bit of a head start.

Re: Official - Lamela

this kid isnt injured, i just think he's got a settling issue and a mental thing he needs to get in check before he can contribute

wouldnt surprise me if he keeps on injuring himself all the way through to the summer

edit;- can anyone explain if he has ever been this injury prone before? he's had like multiple injuries with us

Yes, no one at Spurs ever gets injured. This Lamela business is so out of the ordinary it can't possibly be true.

Based on what? Unless you have some actual inside information, you are nothing but a WUM. It's embarrassing, really. People just making up rumours about one of our players based on nothing. Just the worst.

Re: Official - Lamela

He's not injured, he's faking it because he doesn't want to play football. FACT! My barber told me....

Bit of an overreaction. I'm with AS here.

This is just a nicer way of managing him through the adjustment period, rather than having the fans question him - 'Why isn't he playing well?' '£30M?!' etc - or the manager - 'He needs to be playing him!' 'He's stifling his potential!' etc.

Injuries are used to cover myriad of other issues.

LOL, no i dont think he is faking it necessarily. i just dont , IMO , think that he is actually injured at a time where it seems that his confidence and morale appears to be at an all time low. some times you just want to take as many variables out of the equation that could hinder an adjustment period. "kid is injured. Leave him alone" . Stop

this for me

Re: Official - Lamela

Affy/Truth, Do you have anything to base this on, it seems an extraordinary theory?

Re: Official - Lamela

My theory is that he's been sent back to Argentina for a month or two, just to ease the pressure of playing a bit. He's still training, but once he's confident again he'll come back into the team.

That's just my theory, there's no actual proof in that.

Re: Official - Lamela

i can see the logic in it tbf - if what they are saying is that it's a decision from everyone involved to say he's injured in order to prevent added pressure on the player/manager to play him if he isn't quite up to the task ATM (rather than what i initially thought was being said - he is lying to the club by pretending to be injured to avoid playing) although i do think it's a bit of a leap to come to that conclusion when the much more likely scenario is that he is just injured.

Re: Official - Lamela

no not really, its just a gut feeling.

it didnt help that i thought to myself that the best thing for him is to write of this season completely and just focus on the future....and the only two ways would be to send him home with all his friends or family......or b) he gets injured or we say he gets injured so that he can focus on nothing pressure based.

it isnt out of the norm for option 1 to be used , but that normally comes with rumours and questions about when he is coming back, why did he leave, can he hack it, is he upset etc etc etc.

the injury one tends to be the best and puts a ribbon around it nicely.

thats what i thought turn of the year when sherwood still didnt play him often enough before he got injured...and it wasnt until the second mini injury which came after the first one this year that i thought "aha , you know what, i think they are giving him a break"

i'm surprised you find this an extra-ordinary theory to be honest. thats quite a sheltered take on goings on behind a foot ball club

look at Thudd with AVB...he said he wasnt injured yet AVB said he has an ankle problem.
Then sol campbell while with england i believe glenn hoddle said he was injured...but sol not knowing that he needed to be in line with that story told the truth and said "what injury, i'm not injured"

like i said, an opinion but more a gut feeling...i wouldnt be surprised if he gets niggling injuries all the way to the point where we know our fate in this league or through to the summer

has the kid ever been injured like this before
