I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

For those who don't want to read: Basically Lamela in an effort to compensate for his thigh injury has injured his back and is out for at least another 6 weeks (Sherwood said weeks but the journo's have deduced that means 6) whilst the physio's get him sorted. On the plus side he will be in England so may actually settle. Sherwood has basically tried to take the pressure off the lad by saying he's a big part of the clubs future.

Ossie Ardiles expects Erik Lamela to overcome his troubled start at Tottenham | Football News | Sky Sports

"I have a lot of confidence in him," he told skysports.com. "His background is as a top, top player. In Argentina he was called the new Messi when he was with River Plate; in Roma he was called the new Totti, so his background is very good.

"But the pace in English football is much more difficult. It's much quicker and it's difficult to adapt immediately, so he did not start well and he's not really played. He's injured too, which has not helped.

"But he is a very young player. I'm pretty sure he has adapted to the English way of living, that's the easy part. The most difficult part is playing in a new team and something just needs to click and I'm sure if something clicks, he will be a very, very good asset for the club."

Re: Official - Lamela

phantom injury after phantom injury......

Our physio's cant be any good if they dont tell him not to over compensate

that is assuming he is actually injured

after all this i wouldnt sell him at all this summer even WHEN he tries to engineer a move

It's not uncommon for players to pick up injuries whilst recovering from others, particularly when they are not match fit.

There is no way we will sell him in the summer unless we can get a large proportion of his fee back which I think means he's staying.

And what's with the conspiracy theories?

Because without the conspiracy theories there'd be no reason to **** off Sherwood for not picking him.

Re: Official - Lamela

Im not sure Tim is as funny as he thinks and the joke he made regarding Lamela probably knowing English by the time he is fit i thought was a little unprofessional.

Re: Official - Lamela

Lennon's becoming the new Dirk Kuyt with his fantastic defensive contribution. Like him but he needs to do more in attack, we don't need two right backs.

Re: Official - Lamela

Unless of course the lad was so desperate to get back he forced himself through the thigh problem without letting on and it only got picked up on when he couldn't mask the pain. Remember it's a world cup year and he wants to go, it's feasible that he pushed himself harder than he would at any other time with that goal in mind.

At one point earlier in the season during one of Lamela's injurys his brother Brain was asked on twitter if Erik was injured and replied no.

Re: Official - Lamela

The twitter thing with his brother is just plain weird, I cant think of many footballers/clubs who have someone leak info about them like this.

Its quite possibly down to this. We have had a fair few injury problems in the last few seasons where players are supposed to be out for a few weeks and it turns into months. There is never real information given as to why this happened. There was a few mentions of players playing through injuries with injections perhaps this is/was part of the problem.

Don't all clubs have this? I suspect that this one of those things that we assume is worse at Spurs because we pay more attention to our injuries than other clubs.

I missed that. Is it possible that it was lost in translation, maybe he was omitted for lacking match fitness rather than an injury?

Thats a fair point, but sometimes there is a lack of transparency with our club to the point where you are not sure what to believe and have to rely on assumptions.

I know but I assume that this is done, at least in part, to keep our opponents guessing too.

Exactly what I thought. Just about everyone says he's injured, even Ardiles. Some are trying to find something that's just not there....

Re: Official - Lamela

What makes you think that?

I mentioned it on the last page or the page before. Anyway it's just an opinion,i don't think he's legit injured. I think there may have been a slight injury to begin with but he's exclusion from team duties is down to something else.
