Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

When did De Boer publicly state he wanted the Spurs job?

dutch media a few weeks ago, says Liverpool and Tottenham fit his playing style and are packed with talent making them very attractive teams to manage

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

That's an interesting spin on things and is a pretty good indicator as to why your views are so skewed.

According to many people involved at Chelsea at the time, AVB's role was to clear out Mourinho's ageing team and replace them with something that could go on to win trophies over the longer term. A team full of ****s decided that they were in charge, not the manager and Abramovic (probably fearing the fan reaction if he ****ed off Terry) decided not to back the guy for the job he employed him to do.

"On 4 March 2012, following a 1–0 league defeat against West Bromwich Albion which left Chelsea three points adrift of Arsenal in the battle for fourth place in the Premier League, Villas-Boas was relieved of his managerial duties by Chelsea."

To me that sounds a very similar situation to his "dismissal" at Spurs. A team not achieving what he was employed to get them achieving.

As for my views being skewed I'm playing the Devil's Advocate here I'm ambivalent about the appointment of Sherwood.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

just like AVB tried to take the credit for Chelseas CL and FA cup wins in 2012, he will do the same if Spurs manage a top 4 place

If you want to be devil's advocate, you'll need to do a better job of reading other posts and responding to them. I'll try again:

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Is him doing that anything other than speculation? I don't recall him ever touting himself for someone else's job in the press.

In the press, no. I suspect he touted himself around the club for AVB's job though.

So you reckon that winning trophies whilst he was there wasn't included in the brief and that he was solely there to create a team for another to win with?

Abramovich is in it for the NOW not for 5 years down the line.

In which case, why did he want the old guard removed? Why not leave them in place?

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Amy Lawrence was on one time after we beat Arsenal, and was practically in tears, bless. Phillipe Auclair is so far up Wenger's starfish, only his shoes are poking out.

So much for journalistic objectivity.

Jimbo is a great host, but none of them have any time for Spurs.

Just finished listening to that Frenchman slating us and saying we were "tripe". We weren't good at all on Sunday but you could tell he was trying to feel better about Arsenal's absolute humping on the weekend by putting us down. Hate that guy and the German one, Rafael Honigstein, is also quite anti-Spurs.

I like the podcast though, the English guys on it are usually decent guys and good foil for each other and the banter isn't forced like on some I've tried to listen to.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

But you have no idea whether this actually happened.

We have no idea that it didn't. Not sure why we should assume Timmeh has become a saint in the years since he used to **** off our club whenever the opportunity presented itself.

That's a big jump in logic there. Just because he's been critical of the way the club is run and how the team has performed (hands up who on here has never done either) it does not mean that every innuendo or smear on his character is true by default.

Like him or loath him, he appears to have done a good job since he came back here as a coach, or at least the people running the club seem to think so.

I would agree with you that he lacks experience for his current job and I suspect that he only got it because other more experienced candidates were unavailable. So far he is doing alright, not perfect, there are certainly areas where we need to improve but I am sure that we would have taken the results since AVB left if offered them, no matter who the coach was.

If Sherwood manages to stear us to 4th this season, I would rank it as our best achievement in the Premier League era. Not because of our performances because they have been lukewarm all season but because of how competitive the league is this year.

Who knows. Unfortunately I'm not Abramovich's advisor.

It could easily have been he had money to spend and wanted to get younger, possibly even better, players in that could challenge for trophies with AVB as manager. When he saw AVB didn't have what was required he got rid.

I'm sure that is a dangerous job. You are probably lucky your not.

agreed

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

According to most neutrals and many Spurs fans (myself included) we were poor on the weekend and barely played football. We were hard to break down after the opening 20 minutes but going forward we were devoid of ideas.

Would it be true to say we have looked better with Soldado in the team, offensively anyway? Considering Saudi Sportswashing Machine's depleted ranks I hope Tim goes for the jugular in this match. Time for a wonky.
(I said wonky!!)
