*** The Official 'No OOMT for Sheriff?' OMT ***

In your example, if we have to go 4-4-2. That means we have two strikers no? Then we have Ade and Defoe. Remind me again why Soldado needs to make this pointless trip?

Oh and while we're at it, against whom did Kaboul get needlessly injured?

Sandro is not at all required. Dembele and Holtby are more than adequate for those positions. Again a needless passenger for this trip.

I just hope no one who would otherwise be playing against Hull gets injured or knackered.

Because if we have to play 4-4-2 you need a backup striker on the bench.

From what you seem to be saying, you want to do without substitutes. Dembele and holtby go out one of them gets injured, who comes on for them? Sandro.

Kaboul was injured whilst we were trying to get him match fit again, that's required.

I just don't buy AVB's policy of bringing players on long trips just in case and not using them.
I think people are giving him way too much credit in thinking he can manage European and League effectively because he's done it Portugal.
In Portugal games are moved to Mondays following Europa league away trips.
In AVB's season in Portugal he won all but 3 league games, 2 of those games where directly after away trips in Europe.

We're gonna be playing 4231 as usual out there. AVB should pick his 11 in advance and bring the likes of Kane, Veljkovic and Bentaleb. He has enough players that can play in multiple positions that he doesn't need to send a full squad.

I've a bad feeling he's going to continue playing strong sides even after we qualify.

If he plays the whole first team after we've qualified, then I'll agree we have a problem. It is possible he'll continue his policy of rotation.

We have a big squad - why isn't AVB using it? it is daft to take first team players who will start against Hull, half way round the world just in case they MIGHT be needed. If we do NEED them against ****ing Sheriff, then the squad isn't that good.

We will only go 4-4-2 if our single striker policy isn't working. So are you suggesting both Soldado and Ade/ Defoe should start on the bench?. Our substitutes should be young kids not first teamers. To risk the likes of Soldado, Verts, Sandro in this way is just daft IMO.

From the Beeb:

"For this moment, we consider ourselves to be the main force in Moldova in terms of football," said Sheriff manager Veaceslav Rusnac, whose side have won their domestic title 12 times in the past 13 seasons.

"Probably there are areas in Europe that think we have a lot of vodka and bears, but it is not so."

Translations courtesy of the ever reliable google translate but I thought, what the hell may as well have a gander at what Sheriff fans are talking about on their forum; :D

The match with Anzhi on "Saturn" was Tottenham fans were about 120 people about 60 Englishmen and as many locals. In Russia, "spurs" good fan, and from there people will be tightened in the main, they have been on our way to short breaks Tiras. I think under 100 people will be on the guest.

Online 3 ppm nines point in the graph search dial syllable of Sheriff here to get a list like mushrooms after the rain. I myself without a ticket ostalsya.pridetsya on the internet to watch.

Matches against Tottenham - the second major test for the Sheriff of the season after Dinamo Zagreb, really want to play does not happen again in one gate (not that that is necessary), but it is very formidable opponent, however, as grit, take a look .. .)))

Fuuh, took ...))
Suffered terribly, and for good reason, came to 17-00 in the fan, 10-th part dismantled, took second, said that according to forecasts by the day 2 will be empty at all, and this is good))

Performance is needed, but it is desirable that the people of the time, at least, 70%.

I will try to guess the composition of which will expose the game with Tottenham Sherifom.navernyaka guys who will play in the Premier League receive a little game vremeni.Kapue, Rose, Kabul almost 100% will not fly because of travm.Adebayor asked permission from the management on personal issues, it also will not be .

I was a skeptic, and I will, but I badly want to believe that the dream will come true)
I will Octopus Paul)

Looked photo with training. Spurs are quiet, like a boa constrictor, and our anxiety is felt even through the monitor. It would not be alarmed and do not lose heart after the first goal, as with Zagreb!

Do not worry, guys, we believe in you and still be supporting! Good luck! Remained exactly day before the match)))

Well, here came the big day ...!
Today will be a super match and super atmosphere ...!
I believe in the team!
should at least play a worthy opponent against eminent!

It is going to be interesting how we approach this game. Nothing much is known about our opponents Sheriff, other than the fact they are league champions in Moldova. On paper, they don't have any well-known players and so shouldn't trouble us much. But it is always tricky to play unknown teams as we don't know what to expect from them. They can spring a surprise or two if we are not careful. Just hope we don't get complacent and will turn up with the right mentality. We shouldn't get complacent in this match as we have a chance to book our ticket to the next round.

Won't mind if we make a lot of changes to this match. We have enough squad depth to rest many regulars and play the non-regulars instead. Defoe has done really well to score 7 goals in Cup matches so far. He is just 1 goal short of becoming our top scorer in Europe. Hope AVB will start Defoe as he deserves to get a chance to make history. Surely, our record signing Lamela needs to start in attack as well. After 30m on him, it will be silly not to play Lamela in matches like this. Hope Lamela will make an impact for us. I think Lamela badly needs to score a goal to boost his confidence. Also, it will be good to give some playing time to Adebayor to see if he can contribute something to us this season. Don't think Adebayor will get many better chance than this to show his worth to us. Let's see which Adebayor will turn up if he does get a chance to play.

We have many options in midfield now but wonder who will get to play in this match. Non regulars like Sandro and Holtby would have been automatic choice before but after playing against Villa, not sure they will start in this match. Similiarly, not sure if AVB will risk playing players like Eriksen and Dembele in this match. I guess it all will depend on AVB's mood when he selects the team. But I can see Chadli definitely starting this match as he has not played much recently. I think Lennon too might start as he needs more game time to get back his form. Whoever play in midfield, hope we will be able to win the midfield battle.

After keeping many clean sheets this season, will be very disappointed if we don't keep a clean sheet in this match. There is no reason why we cannot do that as Sheriff don't have any well-known strikers. Can see Chiriches starting in defence as he needs more game time. Maybe Dawson and Vertonghen will play 1 half each to partner him. Wish Kaboul is fit as that would have given us more options. Also, if Lloris is rested want to see Gomes in goal instead of Friedel. I think we need to play a younger goalie like Gomes instead of Friedel who is getting older. Surely, Friedel will tend to get slower as he gets older.

Really not sure what to expect from this match. It will be great if we can get a big win with the strikers scoring many goals. But we shouldn't get complacent and under estimate Sheriff. Hope we put up a good performance and win comfortably.

If players cannot cope with playing Thursday and Sunday in the EL how will they manage Wednesday and Saturday in the CL?

CHIVERS ON DEFOE

Martin Chivers says if anyone is going to take his European goalscoring record, he’s happy for it to be Jermain Defoe.

The in-form JD is in Moldova with the squad as we prepare for this evening’s Europa League Group K match against FC Sheriff, knowing that he is one goal away from Chiv’s 22-goal European total – a club record.

Having scored in both our Group K fixtures so far – the 3-0 win at home to Tromso IL and the 2-0 victory against Anji Makhachkala – JD knows that two goals tonight will see him overtake Big Chiv as our all-time top marksman in Europe.

And Martin, who won the UEFA Cup with us in 1972, says he’s proud of Jermain as he closes in on a history-making goal.

“I’m pleased for him to be quite honest,” said Chiv. “If I’m going to let any record go that I’ve got here, I don’t mind letting it go to Jermain Defoe, who is a great goalscorer.

“I’ve always sung his praises. I wouldn’t like to leave my record to somebody who I feel has been lucky – I don’t think he’s been that lucky at all. I think he’s earned everything he’s done, and he’s scored a load of goals in Europe, so good luck to him.”

The magnitude of being in a position to break our European goalscoring record is not lost on JD, and although he admits he’s feeling fresh after coming on for the closing moments of Sunday’s 2-0 win at Aston Villa in the Premier League, he’s under no illusions about what he’ll have to do to bag that landmark goal, whether that’s tonight or at some point down the line.

“I bumped into him (Martin) after the West Ham game and I said to him I was trying to avoid him!” joked JD.

“Maybe I’ll score – we’ll see what happens really. Obviously it would be nice if it happens, and if it doesn’t I’ll hopefully do it in the next game.

“I’m quite looking forward to it as I haven’t played for a while. I feel quite fresh to be fair, hopefully I’ll get the chance to do it – it’ll be good but you don’t want to be totally focussed on that because you don’t want to just think ‘I need to break the record’ and be too tense, so I’ll just relax and if it happens, I’ll be avoiding Chivs!”

Euro story so far
FC Sheriff were initially in the Champions League qualifiers this season. They lost out to Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 on aggregate. They qualified for the group stage of the Europa League by beating FK Vojvodina of Serbia 3-2 on aggregate.

New friends
Tonight marks the first time FC Sheriff have ever met English opponents in UEFA competition.

Draw specialists
Following their 1-1 draw against Tromso IL on Matchday Two, FC Sheriff are one of only three teams to have drawn both their opening games in the group stage of the Europa League this season. The others are Real Betis and Lyon.

In the group
FC Sheriff competed in the group stage of the Europa League in consecutive seasons, between 2009/10 and 2010/11. However, they failed to get beyond the group stage on both occasions, having amassed five points in both seasons.

Staying at home
In both previous ventures into the Europa League group stage, FC Sheriff won one, drew one and lost one of their home games.

Previous visit
Our only previous European encounter with a Moldovan side was against Zimbru Chisinau in the 1999/00 UEFA Cup first round in September 1999. We won 3-0 at home in the first leg and drew 0-0 away in the return.

Last time out
FC Sheriff drew 1-1 away to Zimbru Chisinau on Saturday.

Winning run
FC Sheriff have registered the longest winning run in the Moldovan top flight so far this term, winning nine games in a row.

Title tilt
FC Sheriff have only failed to win the title in one of the last 13 seasons.

Top again
Domestically, FC Sheriff top the Moldovan National Division standings with nine wins from their 12 matches so far. They are four points clear of FC Veris.

Top marksman
FC Sheriff’s 23-year-old Brazilian striker Henrique Luvannor is top scorer in the Moldovan top flight with 10 goals.

Home comfort
FC Sheriff have only lost one of their last 88 home league matches, dating back to August 2008.
